Released in September 2011 as a spiritual sequel to Demon's Souls, it is set in a dark, medieval fantasy world. It is renowned for its challenging gameplay, intricate level design, and deep lore. Players control a customizable character known as the Chosen Undead, embarking on a perilous journey to uncover the secrets of the cursed land of Lordran.

Dark Souls is known for its punishing difficulty, requiring players to carefully manage combat, stamina, and resources while navigating hostile environments filled with dangerous enemies and formidable bosses. The game features a unique multiplayer component, allowing players to leave messages for others, summon allies for cooperative play, or invade other players' worlds for PvP combat.

The original release of Dark Souls received critical acclaim for its atmospheric world, innovative mechanics, and rewarding gameplay, solidifying its place as a seminal title in the action RPG genre.","185682/dark_souls_cover_webp","185682/dark_souls_header_jpg","https://youtu.be/WlVBVKAFFg4","2011-09-22",86.91,2155,"dark-souls",null,[19,24
"Bandai Namco Entertainment",false,true
"FromSoftware",[28,29],"Role-playing (RPG)","Adventure",[31,32,33],"PC (Microsoft Windows)","PlayStation 3","Xbox 360",[35,51,67,83,97,112,127,139,153,168,183,197
69645
4756,"Keza MacDonald
69,"https://cdn.criticdb.com/storage/v1/object/public/avatars/Outlets/IGN-logo.jpg","IGN","https://www.ign.com/","10","The reviewer's job is difficult when it comes to a game like Dark Souls. I simply can't unreservedly recommend that you buy it. It's not a game that you play to relax. It doesn't care in the slightest about whether you're enjoying yourself, and it doesn't give a fig for your notions of entertainment or your mental well-being. If you just play games for fun, this isn't for you, and no amount of insistence on my part is going to change that.

But if you're interested in the limits of the videogame form – to see just how focused, how pure and how uncompromising in its vision a game can be – Dark Souls is unmissable. If you take the time get into Dark Souls' mindset, to begin to understand the twisted way in which it operates and taste the rewards behind its cruellest challenges, this is one of the most thrilling, most fascinating and most completely absorbing experiences in gaming.","https://www.ign.com/articles/2011/09/30/dark-souls-review","2011-09-30","9",90
37189
3524,"Trevor Houston
7,"https://cdn.criticdb.com/storage/v1/object/public/avatars/Outlets/cog-connected-logo.png","COGConnected","https://cogconnected.com","100","One of the more intriguing games to arrive on my home office doorstep this fall is unquestionably Namco Bandai’s “Dark Souls” for the Xbox 360. Punishing, unforgiving, torturous, and ridiculously hard are some common themes used to market the game. Yet many in the gaming world, including myself, are gluttons for punishment and often crave for an experience that is not only punishingly hard but equally rewarding. In a nut shell, that is what you get with Dark Souls. Dark Souls is a game where at times you will want to call it quits, but if you just stick with it and exercise some extreme patience the spiritual successor to Demon’s Souls can be an experience unlike one you have played before and one of the most rewarding as well.
