Little Goody Two Shoes is a fantastic horror story-driven game that runs exceptionally well on the Steam Deck!
Little Goody Two Shoes is a bewitching scary fairy tale about the most secret desires of our heroine Elise and the price that is required to fulfill them. It sets out to teach players and Elise a lesson, but everyone is free to decide for themselves what that lesson is.
While a horror/dating sim fusion initially sounds odd, its fantastic execution helps drive its themes home in a powerful way. I can only hope this finds a strong audience because it absolutely deserves one. AstralShift has at least found a new big fan in me.
Square Enix is a weird publisher. Everybody knows them for their Final Fantasies, Niers, and Dragon Quests, but they’ll usually have a couple more niche releases every year as well. Like last year’s Powerwash Simulator, for example. This year that game would be Little Goody Two Shoes. The game, developed by AstralShift, is a horror narrative adventure set in a beautiful fairy tale world, with dating sim elements, little minigames to make money, and day-night cycles.
Speaking of which, you’ll die quite a few times during the witching hour sections. These sections are short, trial-and-error sequences that’ll test your ability to scavenge and not get hit. Honestly, these sections were not my favourite. They’re not difficult and the game provides plenty of extra material and save points to progress, and some of the puzzles were even fun. But scrounging through darkness and some tight corridors with the analog stick (the D-pad cannot be used for movement) left me feeling a little miffed at times.
With a compelling, troubling, and disturbing story and art style, Little Goody Two Shoes is a must for anyone that is familiar with or new to the genre - in this case, a multitude of genres. Creepy, beautiful, dramatic, and memorable.
The developers at AstralShift clearly love anime, and it comes through by virtually creating their own. While there are elements that a well-versed shoujo fan will see, Little Goody Two Shoes is something entirely original.
Just in time for Halloween, Little Goody Two Shoes takes players on a macabre jaunt through a not-so-friendly forest.
Venture into the woods as you play Little Goody Two Shoes, a phantasmagorical horror narrative adventure where all your decisions matter! PC version reviewed.
