It is the 22nd installment of the NHL series and was released on September 11, 2012 in North America, Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand. The game was released on the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, featuring Philadelphia Flyers forward Claude Giroux on the cover.[1] The game was featured at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2012 (E3 2012), which took place between June 5–7, 2012. The demo of the game was released on August 21–22, 2012, at the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Store.[4]

There was a vote deciding which player would be on the NHL 13 cover. Anybody could vote on the player(s) they wished to see on the cover of the game. The vote started on March 29, 2012 with 60 NHL players in a single-elimination voting with two players in each match-up, and was closed on June 4, receiving over 25 million votes worldwide.[5] On June 20, Claude Giroux was named the winner, over Pekka Rinne at the 2012 NHL Awards in Las Vegas.[6]

An exclusive "Stanley Cup Collector's Edition" was also released, apart from the actual NHL 13 game. The Collector's Edition includes five random Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT) player packs from the two 2012 Stanley Cup Finals teams; a Gold Jumbo HUT pack including legend Wayne Gretzky; and a boost pack featuring the CCM RBZ stick.[7]

Just like in NHL 12, Gary Thorne (play-by-play) and Bill Clement (color) provide commentary for NHL 13.[8]

This year, for the first time, two playable female characters, Hayley Wickenheiser and Angela Ruggiero have been added.[9] In NHL 12, users could create female characters, but there were no real-life players.[10]

On September 20, Gamesindustry.biz reported that NHL 13 had posted the best first week sales in the franchise's history.[11]","187401/nhl-13-cover.jpg","187401/nhl-13-header.jpg","https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tuFklCUAWk","2012-09-11",null,2986,"nhl-13",[18,23
"EA Canada",true,false
"EA Sports",[27,28],"Simulator","Sport",[30,31],"PlayStation 3","Xbox 360",[33,48,63,77,92
36551
3574,"Frank Naresh
7,"https://cdn.criticdb.com/storage/v1/object/public/avatars/Outlets/cog-connected-logo.png","COGConnected","https://cogconnected.com","100","I figured I would delve right into how this new version of our great sport handles. Right off the hop I found that NHL 13 feels tighter and easier to control then previous releases in the series, and the older games control pretty well too. I love how the Xbox 360 controller feels and controls. The buttons are responsive and easy to navigate. One of the key highlights to this year’s game is the new True Performance Skating. EA deems this as a game–changing innovation for the franchise as the skating is now physics based as the mode tries to authentically replicate the explosiveness, momentum and top end speed displayed by today’s NHL players. I struggled with the Skill Stick innovation some years back, but have made huge strides after much practice. I believe the same can be said for True Performance Skating, practice is going to make perfect.","https://cogconnected.com/review/nhl-13-xbox-360-review/","91",91
74474
4757,"Colin Moriarty
69,"https://cdn.criticdb.com/storage/v1/object/public/avatars/Outlets/IGN-logo.jpg","IGN","https://www.ign.com/","10","I really enjoyed my time with NHL 13. And if you’re a hockey junky like me, chances are you will, too. You also get robust online and offline modes that could potentially keep you busy for hundreds of hours.

NHL 13 may have some problems and inconsistencies, but they barely detract from the quality product EA Canada has put out this year, one that may just keep you warm on those cold, dark nights when you should be watching the real thing but are forced to play it on your console of choice instead.","https://www.ign.com/articles/2012/09/11/nhl-13-review","8.5",85
45945
3995,"Adam Dolge
62,"https://cdn.criticdb.com/storage/v1/object/public/avatars/Outlets/Playstation-Universe-Logo.jpg","Playstation Universe","https://www.psu.com/","NHL 14 takes the ice in a new way, and it brings with it retro and new players alike with NHL 94 Mode.
