Blue Prince is an exceptional puzzle game, and one that we didn’t necessarily ask for in its roguelike form. While the game provides you with a clear objective at the start, it quickly becomes apparent that there is a lot more than one final objective to keep you coming back to Blue Prince, even after finding the 46th room. Once in a while, a game comes along and changes the gaming landscape for the foreseeable future. With the arrival of Blue Prince, I expect to see more games coming in a similar mold over the next few years. While some will hit and some will miss, I doubt many will have the same lasting impact as Blue Prince.
Beyond Galaxyland is still among the games that are entertaining and have some charm and mystery which will make players stay. Fans of sci-fi adventures who have an affinity for indie titles should absolutely check out this title. The mixture of an interesting plot, character relations, and a beautifully designed universe makes it a game that is worth exploring even if some portions of the game could use some refinement.
Every once in a while, an indie title garners a significant amount of hype, and most of the time, it falls short of reaching its full potential. The Plucky Squire is one such title that is highly anticipated and for the most part, meets its expectations. While the game may not be perfect, it for the most part lives up to the hype as a vibrant, unique experience.
Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is the latest title from developer Don’t Nod, best known for their work on titles such as Life is Strange, Jusant, and the spiritual predecessor of this game, Vampyr. Ghosts of New Eden is a narrative-driven action RPG with a heavy decision-making element. With Don’t Nod’s past experiences, it is hard not to feel that Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden has taken on some of the best parts of their previous games and put it all together here.
With its 25th anniversary, NBA 2K24 is back for another year of hoops with cover athletes Kobe Bryant and Sabrina Ionescu. Having played the 2K series for roughly 15 of those years, I’ve watched as the series grew and changed over the course of three console generations. While much has changed, one thing has remained constant. NBA 2K is still the king of the court when it comes to basketball video games.
Self-described as an “interplanetary action RPG adventure with a rich, choice-driven story,” Batora: Lost Haven definitely checks the boxes that it sets out for itself. With the style of gameplay that it employs (isometric fast-paced action), Batora was right up my alley in terms of what my gaming appetite had been craving, especially as it was a single-player experience. What I consumed was a title that was fun, though perhaps had a bit of an identity crisis at times.
Developed by Counterplay Games and published by Gearbox, Godfall has the distinction of being the first game announced to release on the PlayStation 5. With this distinction as well as that of being a console launch exclusive, Godfall did garner a significant amount of attention. While some of the games and series that the title drew comparisons to set the bar quite high, Godfall ultimately became a thing of its own while falling into pitfalls that similar games have experienced.
Fairy Tail is a long-running, Japanese franchise that spans its manga, anime, figurines, and more. After a number of delays leading up to its release, the game is finally releasing worldwide. For the uninitiated, Fairy Tail revolves around a guild of mages, telling the members’ individual stories as well as a much larger narrative. As someone who kept up with the manga’s original release, it was definitely exciting to see a proper console game released.
Unlike the actual MLB season, which has since been put on hold due to current world events, MLB The Show 20 has launched relatively smoothly, bringing “America’s past-time” back to gamers’ living rooms. As it has been the past few years, MLB The Show 20 is another iteration of one of the best sports franchises around. Like usual, its strong gameplay, continuous improvements, and a plethora of content make MLB The Show 20 the place to be this spring.
Developed by DeadToast Entertainment and published by Devolver Digital, My Friend Pedro looks like yet another game that fits perfectly with the energy that Devolver Digital has been keeping for years. Previously shown off through fast-paced, frenetic combat, My Friend Pedro is exactly as advertised. According to its description, My Friend Pedro is a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana. Seems legit.
