Unsighted Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Unsighted is this year’s best Metroidvania/Zelda-like game by a long shot. It’s creative, gripping, and accessible with a ton of stuff to do and see. There are a few small issues, like some awkward writing or too much menuing, but those are well worth it for such a fun, polished experience.

I’ve been reviewing and previewing plenty of Metroidvania as of late, and I can say that nothing has caught my attention as Unsighted has. Made by Studio Pixel Punk, a tiny indie team of only two people, this title is an incredible achievement in game design. It not only checks off everything that makes Metroidvanias good but also executes those points masterfully with their own unique flairs. Good combat? Check. Great movement and platforming? Check. Iterative puzzle designs? Check. Truly rewarding exploration? Check. Diverse powers and weapons? Check.

Whether you’re looking for a great adventure or a devastating one, Unsighted is absolutely both and then some.

Unsighted combines entertaining and thoughtful combat and engrossing exploration with a devilish premise. As Alma, you’re a human-like automaton who awakens with amnesia and faces two problems. First, your partner, Raquel, is missing. Second, the world has lost its Anima, the energy source that gives automatons emotion and free will. When an automaton runs out of Anima, it devolves into an Unsighted, a mindless monster. Alma’s action-adventure romp becomes a genuine race against the clock to spare as many friends as possible from this fate.

In no uncertain terms? Unsighted is awesome. More people should know about it and play it, especially considering that the game goes out of its way to be accessible even to people who usually find Souls-like titles too hard, or people who dislike the timer mechanic but still want to experience the game, or even people looking for a harder ride. This is a good game and you should go play it. It’s not quite for everyone… but it’s as close as any title I’ve reviewed comes to being a must...

Here we are again with yet another outing by Humble Games, and to no one’s surprise, yet another excellent and highly polished title. The company has been on a roll as of recent, with games like Flynn: Son of Crimson and Dodgeball Academia. Their brand new title is UNSIGHTED, a pixel-art top-down action game with a heavy emphasis on fast paced challenging combat and exploration, not unlike another favorite of mine, the phenomenal CrossCode.

Some games attempt many things yet few do it well so allow me to introduce the very cool UNSIGHTED and its many nifty elements.

A pixel-art Metroidvania-like action game that looks great, and plays well, but has a few odd design components.

Oct 3, 2021 Read Review

Unsighted delivers engaging top-down action combat and a heartwarming narrative about connection, sacrifice, and love. The gameplay is fast and victory tastes sweet. Not everyone will enjoy the journey's burdens, and getting lost can frustrate you immensely, but the destination is worth the journey.

Like the recently released Deathloop, Unsighted is a game that isn't afraid to experiment with its genre to see what's possible. In the case of Studio Pixel Punk, their combination of Soulslike and Metroidvania is backed up by gameplay mechanics that force players to take an active role in crafting the title's end-state. It will be up to the player who they choose to save and who they leave to die. In this regard, Unsighted offers a wealth of replay value to players interested in locating its...
