Cricket 19 is by far the best cricket game available right now. There’s enough about it to keep cricket newbies entertained while its high level of authenticity will no doubt delight die-hard cricket fans. Even England’s Barmy Army, however, would get quickly tired of the loading times, and may notice the small imperfections to the matchday experiences. Despite this, Cricket 19 is a solid boundary, with the career mode hitting nothing but sixes.
Despite some unforgivable frustrations created through some of the quests though, the overall experience of Dragon Quest Builders 2 is very gratifying. It builds on the success of the first game by adding a range of new features and materials. Building feels effortless and allows for the player to be as creative as they can be, while each island offers a whole new world of adventure. Dragon Quest Builders 2 is close enough to being the building canvas you have always hoped for, and it gives you the power to be the creative builder you’ve always wanted to be.
Deponia may well be set in a rubbish heap, but it’s a game that’ll never end up there. With lovably odd characters, a fantastic art design, and a really engaging style of gameplay, Deponia shows what a modern point and click game should be. Despite a steep incline in difficulty that may catch a few players off guard, Deponia’s highlight is its character design and writing, and you can expect to be entertained throughout.
Despite its disappointing combat system and its missed opportunity for providing a more engaging story, Thea: The Awakening still manages to be a riveting game that’ll keep you hooked for hours. There’s a lot to the adventuring component, and the challenges are fun. Don’t expect much hand-holding, but expect the challenge to be enjoyable and tense.
After many hours of playing ADIOS Amigos, I’m still completely hooked. on trying to beat my high scores. Everything from the graphics, to the setting, and the music is just so inviting. Discovering new planets will just never get old in ADIOS Amigos and there’s always a sense of challenge with the fuel being used up.
Life is Strange 2: Episode 1 – Roads is a strong introduction to Sean and Daniel’s characters and story. Their bond is portrayed in a realistic manner, and some moments can be highly emotive. Sadly, Sean’s lack of a power makes the first episode feel less exciting than Max’s opening. The gameplay feels a little too one-dimensional at this moment and really required an added twist. But Roads sets up some intriguing plot points which I’m really excited to see unfold in later episodes of Life is Strange 2.
Shadows Awakening does so much well. It uses a great art style, and a range of creatively designed characters. The dynamic between the Shadow Realm and mortal realm is a fantastic idea and offers a striking difference in gameplay. Sadly, a tedious story combined with finicky menus and dull characters means that Shadows Awakening doesn’t fully wake up to its potential. It’s a decent RPG with some new ideas, but it’s not going to set your world on fire.
For only £13.49/$14.99 on the Nintendo Switch, CastleStorm is an absolute bargain. The campaign may only last for a few hours, but the additional multiplayer is good for days of fun. CastleStorm will challenge you, make you laugh, and keep you on your toes. Plus it will turn you into a castle building expert (if you don’t make the mistakes I did). For its price, CastleStorm is a gem, and a very noble addition to the Switch’s library indeed.
