Phogs!

Phogs!

Phogs! is the vibrantly colourful, smooth puzzle game that I didn’t realize I needed during these turbulent times. Recommended by a fellow gamer, I went into this title fairly blind, but I quickly discovered what makes it such a great puzzle game. Phogs! is dripping with charm. From the protagonist who is a two-headed dog that resembles a noodle of some sort, to the level and environmental design, character design, the gameplay itself, and far more. The Phogs are controlled individually with one head being controlled using the left analog stick, and the other head being controlled with the right analog stick. While Phogs! isn’t the first game to introduce such a mechanic, Bit Loom Games finds creative ways to challenge players with puzzles that vary in difficulty in a title that’s great for all ages due to its inoffensive nature.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is the latest installment in Wayforward Technologies long-running series that has been evolving from one platform to another since the original released for the Gameboy Colour back in 2002. While the colours have always been bright and the characters have always been charming, Wayforward continues to outdo themselves with Seven Sirens, which is the fifth in the franchise. While the series has remained a 2D platformer over the years, metroidvania elements have been expanded upon over the years in a formula that Wayforward continues to improve upon with Seven Sirens.

Putting across a mini-golf course on Team17 and Blacklight Interactive’s multiplayer golf game, Golf With Your Friends, is a lot different from going from course to course in your local mini-putt. The stage design allows both for things that are possible on your average mini-golf course as well as wacky and quirky things that vary up the gameplay. While having moving platforms and large sets is certainly possible at the best mini-golf courses out there, getting a Kraken would cost a lot in space and engineering but the black holes and explosives on other stages are completely out of the question. The stage design leaves me wanting more courses and by the looks of the stage select screen, there’s still one more to come.

Daemon X Machina

Since the launch of Daemon X Machina, fans of mech games and anime alike have created a cult following of Marvelous Inc. and FIRST STUDIO’s love letter to mechs. The PC version of the game is just as much of a hit classic as it was on the Nintendo Switch, but the controls on PC make it easier to aim and allow for ideal key and mouse button bindings. Although the HORI Nintendo Switch Split Pad Pro allowed the most dedicated Daemon X Machina fans the optimal mech experience on the Switch, using your favorite mouse and a gaming keyboard makes this an even more ideal PC game. This classic mech title was built for the Nintendo Switch but it’s even better on the PC.

Doraemon is a familiar anime character that you’ve definitely seen if you’ve been to an Asian night market, or explored many multicultural centers but if you go to Japan, Doraemon is a bit of an icon. The blue robotic cat is mistaken as multiple interpretations such as a bear, raccoon or a dog and these confusions are expertly addressed in the quirky Nintendo Switch title which is available now.
