It’s pretty easy to get down on modern gaming. Nowadays, it feels like they’re always cut to fit certain templates. You’re either an open world game, an FPS, et cetera. As someone who’s job it is to play all these games, these titles just feel like randomized sliders of the same parameters.
With Melty Blood Type Lumina, the game is being reintroduced to a whole new audience- just like its VN counterpart, Tsukihime Remake. Since the last release for Melty Blood, developer French Bread has had good success with the Under Night series- and the result is a Melty Blood title that holds up pretty well as a good fighting game for newcomers.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio’s follow up to Judgment, Lost Judgment, is the perfect balm for the fan looking for more of the studio’s perfect mix of surrealist humor and legitimately good crime drama.
One of the hands-down coolest fighting games on the scene, Guilty Gear Strive continues the Guilty Gear series’ philosophical question of “what if fighting games were injected with rock n roll?” and continues to answer said question with a resounding “yes”.

You continue the journey of Ethan Winters, having taken the advice of Capcom colleague Guile, has gone home to become a family man alongside his wife Mia and daughter Rose.
Before we start this Returnal review, I feel it’s important to highlight my relationship with games of its ilk. For the most part Returnal is a Roguelite, a genre I’ve never been particularly fond of. To that end Returnal bares the distinction of being one of several games (the other being Resident Evil 7) in making me actually enjoy it despite not liking the genre.
Balan Wonderworld is definitely an odd one. After all, 3D Platformers are a niche genre, with many being dropped in favor of more trendy genres like Metroidvanias. Admittedly, I really like the look of Balan Wonderworld- Balan’s design is one of the best mascots in recent years, having that Sonic-esque level of charm to it. That being said, a sexy hat man does not a videogame make, and the overall product we got definitely left me wanting.
