The Silent Hill franchise has had a tough time with the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s PT and the last main entry released thirteen years ago, with Silent Hill Downpour. However, in the past few years, we’ve seen a resurgence (other than Ascension), with The Short Message being a surprisingly solid entry in the franchise. Bloober Team is starting its redemption arc with the fantastic Silent Hill 2 Remake, which not only retells one of gaming’s most iconic stories, but also somehow manag...
Bloober Team is one of those studios that got off to an incredibly rough start. Their initial batch of titles, such as Layers of Fear, oozed pretentiousness whilst lacking in horror and payoff, and to be honest, I was hugely worried about the Silent Hill 2 Remake once Bloober Team was announced to be the ones working on it. However, it turned out to be one of my favourite games of the last year, a fantastic remake that not only lives up to the legacy of the original game but also improves on ...
For the uninitiated, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is a stealth adventure that originally released on PlayStation 2 way back in 2004, with a heavy emphasis on storytelling and cinematic cutscenes. Since then, it has had countless re-releases, including Substance, which made drastic improvements on the base game. Metal Gear Solid Delta is arguably the biggest re-release of the game so far and the first “new” (if you can even call it that) entry in the series since the mixed bag that was ...
Hell is Us combines elements of traditional action gameplay with a more experimental, old-school approach to exploration and puzzle-solving, one that trusts the player to figure things out. We have a lot of games now that are a mile wide but lack in depth. Hell is Us provides the opposite of that: a game that focuses on a deep, explorative experience. And in a year full of surprises like Dune Awakening and Expedition 33, and the fact that we are finally getting Silksong. Hell is Us might be ...
The Mafia franchise has had a rough journey. Whilst the first two were great games, they sadly underperformed in sales and unfortunately, Mafia III was a bit of a misstep for the franchise. Whilst maintaining a solid enough story and characters, its gameplay suffered from repetitive open-world bloat and enough glitches to make Cyberpunk blush. Mafia: The Old Country revitalises the franchise by focusing on what it does best: crime family drama. It may not be the instant classic I was hoping...
I’ve been craving for more stealth games ever since the demise of Mimimi Games (the makers of Desperados III and Shadow Gambit) back in 2023. I had set my sights on Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream a while back, and after playing a short demo, boy, was I hooked and waiting on the final product. It was exactly what I had been asking for, a brand new stealth adventure to dig my teeth into. So, now that it is finally out, does it live up to said expectations?
Hideo Kojima’s 2019 game Death Stranding is arguably one of the most divisive games in recent years. A game that bucked AAA trends and delivered something truly unique, and something that wasn’t for everyone at the same time. Some at WayTooManyGames absolutely loved the game (mostly just me), whilst others are mostly indifferent and just missing out on something different in a sea of clones.
It’s been eleven years at this point, and I feel we are still living in the shadows of Hideo Kojima’s P.T., the playable teaser for the infamously cancelled Silent Hills. While Konami has managed to revive that franchise with a remake of the best entry, as well as The Short Message, it’s impossible not to imagine what Kojima was cooking. Many games have attempted to recapture that spirit, all with varying degrees of success. Visage and MADiSON provided the best attempts to do so. Unfort...
Initially developed by Irrational Games, which would then go on to create the mostly excellent, Bioshock franchise, System Shock 2 is known as one of the most revolutionary games of all time. Still, its relatively cult following and inaccessible nature for many players (especially on console) means that a lot of people haven’t managed to try it out. System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remastered is the perfect game for Nightdive to bring to more modern hardware. Does it live up after all this ...
There’s no denying that a new soulslike being announced and released isn’t as exciting nowadays as it once used to be, due to how bloated the genre is nowadays. There are new ones coming out pretty much every time I wake up these days. However, Blades of Fire did pique my interest before launch, mostly because it was being developed by MercurySteam, a developer I have a lot of respect for. They are the ones responsible for the flawed but fascinating Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, as well a...
