This delightful sprint is both beautiful to watch and engrossing to play. Aerial_Knight's Never Yield is a fantastic hour and a half long sprint, that features an outstanding score and plenty of narrative surprises interwoven throughout. Now, if only we had a flow-chart to follow the actual storyline...

Solo developer 'Aerial_Knight' explodes onto the scene both literally and figuratively. This unique 3D side-scroller places the player as a superhuman youngster thrust into a world of chaos, colour and a killer soundtrack to boot. The game kicks major ass.

On its surface, the gameplay of Aerial_Knight's Never Yield is not all that interesting. You run from left to right, sliding, jumping, and sprinting past obstacles until you reach the end of a level a few minutes later. After a while, it gets a bit bland on the easier difficulties. However, bolstered by a fantastic soundtrack and strong-if-redundant art style, Never Yield is an engaging journey through a dystopian Detroit that, at only an hour or so, is worth taking.

The short runtime might limit some of the appeal of Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield, but even as someone who is decidedly not a speedrunner, I greatly enjoyed my ride through this action movie adventure. Even without online leaderboards, it’s a game designed for speedrunning. The distinctive look and feel make it stand out overall. If you’re looking for a dope, stylish runner, look no further than this never-yielding game.

Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield succeeds at getting you into the action with little complication, even if it has less depth than a kiddie pool. It does a poor job at explaining Wally’s situation (everything I know about the story came from outside the game) and this further prevents the experience from being more than something that feels like a prototype. It has a low price that matches well with its truncated runtime and the soundtrack is good enough to help you forget some of the shortcomings. Maybe Aerial_Knight’s next outing will have the recipe for success. 5/10 drone slides

Upon booting Aerial_Knight’s Never Yield up for the first time, I was greeted with a small cutscene that felt really cool and stylish, accompanied by some sick instrumental hip hop beats. I thought to myself, “I’m in for a hidden gem”. It didn’t take long for all semblance of hope to vanish and for a massive sentiment of disappointment to kick in. A game with so much potential ended up being a bland and uninspired indie with a really subpar gameplay loop and a waste of a presentation.
