Dark Deity Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Dark Deity delivers virtually everything I could ask for from an entry into one of my favorite genres. Fun, intricate battles, meaningful character progression, and a cast of characters I quickly became invested in. If these features sound appealing to you, I cannot recommend this game enough.
Despite being a very blatant homage to Fire Emblem, Dark Deity consistently new layers to both the combat, the strategy, and the characters themselves to keep things feeling fresh. While I don't think the story is quite up to the same standard as its inspiration, I almost prefer the combat here along with the way classes work. Dark Deity is a must-play for fans of strategy RPGs like Fire Emblem, and I'm confident I'll be coming back to it regularly for a long time.
An outstanding homage to Fire Emblem which, in its rich cast of characters and thoughtful tweaks to combat, occasionally surpasses its classic inspiration.
For SRPG fans clamoring for games of a more “classic” style, this title comes highly recommended, especially with the replayability afforded to it through its custom campaign options. I know for sure I’ll be loading this up on the regular for a long time to come.
The likes of Fire Emblem has spawned countless clones over the years at this point. Some good, and some… not so much. For the most part, these clones don’t actually bring anything new to the table either, making them a straight rip-off. That being said, the newest one to come into view is Dark Deity. Aiming to bring the spotlight to the original gameplay style, more than even Fire Emblem: Three Houses was able to return to, Dark Deity features a variety of terrains, unit classes, and more...
With technical issues and unexplained game systems, the clever map design and charming art can't make up for Dark Deity's glaring issues.
Dark Deity is a delightful hidden gem with tons to offer strategy fans. However, does the port to Nintendo Switch fare well for the students of Brookstead Military Academy? Find out in our review.
