Professional reviews from gaming critics
More than anything, my Dead as Disco review comes down to how memorable the game feels. It is stylish without feeling hollow, angry without feeling preachy, and difficult without becoming unfair (most of the time, it needs some tweaks). This isn’t my one perfect 10/10 game for the year, but it gets super close, and I genuinely think the full release could end up being something special. Dead as Disco? 9/10.
Dead as Disco is a rhythm-based action game with fluid combat that, supported by a stylized visual identity and the ability to import custom music, manages to connect with all kinds of players. However, like any title in early access, it still needs to polish some aspects, such as the repetitiveness of its missions and the lack of deep progression, to deliver a truly satisfying experience. Dead as Disco is one of the most satisfying games I’ve ever played. The combat is not so difficult that I can’t get lost in the music, but it has depth that I could plunge myself into if I wanted. The bosses have so much personality and express themselves in a way that makes me want to learn more about them and pick apart the details in their movesets and arenas. All this, and it’s only early access? I am excited to see where the official launch takes the game.
Dead as Disco is an incredible and utterly unique experience that gives and then keeps on giving.
