A unique rhythm based shoot-em-up game with a killer heavy metal soundtrack, detailed pixel characters and environments with tons of personality.

Double Kick Heroes is a great little game for fans of bashing their buttons and keys along with fast-paced heavy metal, and the zombie aesthetic feels well handled. I like how you’re able to adjust the game a bit to make for a more enjoyable experience that you can handle, and I’d hope to see more guest bands joining to fold in Hellgate. It’s a game that does sometimes feel unforgiving and you should probably get your hand muscles worked up in preparation.

Trying to concentrate on this many variables is next to impossible, rhythm games work because of their simplicity, which is vital when trying to keep a player’s concentration in difficult scenarios. In games like Crypt of The Necrodancer bosses clearly telegraph weaknesses, whilst, Thumper, another rhythm game with lots of intricate movements, uses a limited colour palette and repetitive motions to make everything feel like second nature. Double Kick Heroes is not just difficult, but cumbersome too, which is such a shame, there is an incredibly satisfying love letter to the genre hidden behind...

Double Kick Heroes is a good game, even a great game if you’re a metalhead. The artwork portrays a varied post-apocalyptic wasteland as you race across the world battling all sorts of enemies with the power of metal. The soundtrack holds its own and is worth a listen even outside the game. If you like metal or zombies in any way you will thoroughly enjoy this game and the unique combination of the two.

Double Kick Heroes is, by far, one of the most unique rhythm games I've played. While some of the early songs are dull and the difficulty modes need adjusting, I can still confidently recommend this to hardcore rhythm game fans.

I’m always excited to try out a new rhythm game, as this is probably my favorite genre out there. I can’t live off playing Rock Band 4 forever, so I love when a little title like Deemo Reborn or AVICII Invector shows up. They add a little twist and a different take on the rhythm formula, which can easily be learned by anyone who has played other games in harder difficulties. After I’ve heard about Double Kick Heroes, I sure wanted to try it out. A game that mixed rhythm controls, zombie...

Verdict: Double Kick Heroes is a retro-style rhythm game by Headbang Club. With a simplistic art style and the only audio being music, the primary focus is on gameplay and the story themselves. Fans of titles such as the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series are sure to find something to love about it. If you loved either series, then this is definitely a title worth checking out. It’s also great for any gamer who has an affinity for hard rock and heavy metal music. Just make sure your hand-eye coordination is on point. You will definitely need it to defeat the undead. You can find the game on Stea...
