Drova: Forsaken Kin Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
And as I mentioned, dying in Drova is common—therefore you should really be saving a whole bunch. But I encountered an issue many times where I’d reload a save and get stuck at the loading screen, forcing me to restart the client. Mind, I’ve been playing Forsaken Kin on and off only over the last two weeks and it seems the issue still persists since its launch in mid-October. Considering how many things are likely to one-shot you, having to restart the client multiple times to progress or pray that my death didn’t bring about a softlock was quite frustrating.
Drova is a punishing RPG experience that understands the value of friction, though uneven writing prevents it from being a true must-play.
Drova is a fascinating game with compelling themes and worldbuilding, but the overpowered enemies and technical glitches in the game hold it back from being truly spectacular. Despite its flaws, this is a solid game for those who like fantasy and action.
Drova transports you to a world steeped in Celtic mythology and puts you in a punishing situation. Lost in a world that’s supposed to be a perfect paradise, you quickly discover it is anything but that. Adapt to the world and join one of two factions to survive, but be aware that adapting takes time. This adventure will have its ups and downs, testing you each step of the way. You choose how the story ends and dictate what happens based on your actions.
Drova: Forsaken Kin tries to mimic the "Nintendo Hard" action RPGs of yore, and succeeds to its detriment. If you're the sort of masochist who loves stunt challenges in Soulsbornes, you might find the 8-bit aesthetic and obtuse systems enjoyable. If you're not, then not so much.
