Dusk Diver is a beautiful, fun and flawed experience that fails to provide bang for its buck. If you’re a die-hard fan of this style of beat-em-up you may be able to look past the game’s lack of content.
Is it a must-play? No, but the people who are going to like it are going to like it a lot. If you watch the game’s trailer and think that it looks like fun, you are probably going to enjoy the heck out of it, and you should probably give it a gander even if you don’t necessarily expect to be taken in. It’s a bit messy, a bit flabby, and far from perfect… but it’s a charming little game for all of that.
Dusk Diver takes a few inspirations from Persona and Yakuza in an action RPG set in the Ximending district of Taipei, Taiwan. It's easy to dismiss it as an also-ran but it has a low-key charm that makes it a pleasant experience while it lasts.
Dusk Diver is a game that promises a lot with it’s gorgeous visuals, but the combat ultimately falls short. Its basic combo system and missable story are not enough to even come close to some of this year’s stellar action titles.
