Evan's Remains Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
While it comes in a small package the fun core gameplay and unexpected storytelling is worth anyone trying out, especially if you're into puzzle platformers. While Evan's Remains never gets truly difficult it still leaves the player wanting more past the credits.
Unfortunately, the resolution doesn’t quite hold up to the rest. I won’t spoil what happens, but after a few hours of a good, intriguing story, the ultimate explanation includes a final twist that just feels unpleasant. Some players will probably enjoy the ending for what it is, and a few unexplored plot details suggest the developer might be setting up for a sequel, but I finished my playthrough unsatisfied with the note the story ended on.
While it’s over a bit too soon, Evan’s Remains is a delightful little puzzle game. Its story builds up to some great lengths, and the puzzles are innovative and fun to solve.
It's a shame to take great graphics and an interesting premise and ultimately squander them, but that doesn't mean Evan's Remains is absolutely horrible. Given a bit of tweaking it could have been great. As it stands, it's an iniquity you can finish in a couple of hours if you're great at puzzles. Just don't expect to get too engrossed.
As what is apparently his first game, though, what Schmied has crafted is impressive. Evan’s Remains shows he’s got the skill in design and presentation and a solid grasp on storytelling, so I’m looking forward to seeing whatever his next project may be.
With a name such as Evan's Remains, the promise of harrowing tragedy behind exploratory curiosity is nearly guaranteed. Find out what awaits in this narrative-driven platformer about a girl with two names and a boy twisted by time with our Evan's Remains review for PC.
Outside of the art during gameplay, in conversations, the character’s headshots are in the more visual novel style. It would have been nice to have some sort of text recap during the dialogue scenes, as sometimes coming back to the scenes after a break it can be tough to get back into what the characters are talking about.
