Fury Unleashed is really just a simple game with simple controls, but it is unexpectedly hard. In fact, it’s very hard. But that doesn’t take away from the entertaining aspect of it, nor does it make you rage quit and never play it again. They’ve got the formula right for the level of fun and intensity, and there’s also something charming about how they created a modern game true to its classic roguelite genre. Fury Unleashed is a game I am bad at. I’m just terrible at it. I spent 3 hours getting repeatedly pummelled by the first boss. I had to switch to Easy Mode for the sake of this review. But here’s the thing: after I finished the game, I went back and played through it on Hard (the default difficulty). Fury Unleashed is a step better than what you would expect from a generic-looking run-and-gun action game. Its intelligent premise and sheer adherence to fun in all its forms makes it a great game for unwinding or chasing that elusive feeling of flow. Say what you want about Fury and his two-dimensional escapades, but Awesome Games Studio had a clear vision for their game and executed it to an impressive degree of success.
