Grow: Song of the Evertree has a gorgeously colourful, storybook aesthetic that is instantly captivating. The magical land of Alaria is brought to life with sweeping landscapes and cheerfully comic characters, with moments that range from wholesome to genuinely funny. While the world is realised beautifully, the gameplay mash-up of sandbox crafting, adventure, social simulation, and light city-building is not quite so smooth.

In some ways, Grow: Song of the Evertree reminds me of Prideful Sloth's earlier (and superior) release, Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles. Both offer combat-

In spite of multiple attempts, I’ve never really gotten far into world-building games. I’ve dabbled in Little Dragon Cafe, Lego Worlds, Minecraft, all the standard affairs, and it just felt like it wasn’t for me. I don’t have patience or real interest in creation, and, in spite of being impressed with what others made, it didn’t spark the need to emulate that on my own end. Nor, have I found, do I care about simulations of the town building variety. Harvest Moon, My Time at Portia, ...

Grow: Song of the Evertree is the epitome of cosy, wholesome gaming. With a healthy mix of town-building, farming and adventuring, there’s a huge amount of content here for the modest asking price. If you enjoy relaxing games that you can take at your own pace, you won’t be disappointed. It’s a shame that it’s still waiting for some bugs to be ironed out, but once they’re fixed, this will be a must-have.

Overall, a fantastic game that yields a relaxing gaming experience for all. The adventure is fun and awe-inducing. The graphics and music are coupled well together and marry each other to make for an amazing fantasy feel.

There’s an open ended element to Grow that makes it something special. Far beyond the inviting graphics and the urgent environmental tale it tells, this is a thoughtful and deliberate balance of cute and considered gameplay concepts that make it a serious time sink.
