Well I’d better baguette-ing on to a conclusion, so to wrap up, I Am Bread gets a wholegrain-hearted recommendation – it’s definitely the upper crust of comedy action adventure games. Don’t be scared to give it a rye, if there was one thing to bake away from this review it’s that you’ll get your dough’s worth. You’ll at yeast get a laugh or two, or it’ll certainly rise to the challenge. To get the...
While it's not quite the absurdly violent physics spectacle that Surgeon Simulator 2013 is, I Am Bread has its own unique charms, with a darkly silly tone, a minimal but effective story, and open-ended level design that's richer than the simple premise might lead you to expect. Its clumsy controls make it disheartening at first, but it's worth it for the reward of eventually overcoming them and fi...
The game is very much a 'what you see is what you get' package, and gamers who like the idea of sentient bread are likely to enjoy killing a few hours completing the main storyline. I Am Bread packs a surprising amount of entertainment into a title that's available for $14, and those who find themselves curious about the game won't be disappointed with its value if they take the plunge.
The best bread simulator ever made, and despite the rampant silliness there’s some inspired gameplay mechanics and level design baked in.
Unbelievably, there are more ways to play. Free Roam is just a sandbox version of the story, with no objective and no end-game conditions so thatplayers can move freely as any kind of in-game bread. There’s Zero-G, a mode in which you are placed back into the same maps, but without gravity, as a tiny piece of rocket-bread, with the same goal as the story. It’s even harder to move in zero-g, but al...
Frustrating controls and an annoying central gameplay loop stop I Am Bread from achieving the same heights as Surgeon Simulator did.
Gamers shouldn't be fooled by the lighthearted premise of I am Bread as both difficult controls and gameplay mechanics result in continual frustration. I am Bread would have been better off as a funny, short gimmick and not a complete game focused around the premise of being a bread slice.
Amidst the recent spate of so-called simulators, I Am Bread manages to stand out as one of the more ludicrous creations. The controls are relatively easy to grasp and once you’re done with the main missions, the extra modes put a different twist on proceedings, but as always with these games, it’s really at its best when you can share the nonsense with others.

Still, when I think about I am Bread as a whole, I’m reluctant to say it’s good. It’s a silly idea and it seems like developer Bossa Studios had a lot of fun building all of the different modes, but I wish I were having that much fun playing it.
Overall, I Am Bread is a fun and truly challenging game if you don’t mind the amount of frustration it brings. Simple yet it can definitely give out hours of gameplay, depending on how much it would take before you reach your ragequit threshold. I Am Bread is highly recommended for anyone to give it a try, especially those gaming masochists who are into these kinds of will-crumblingly hard games.
