In My Shadow Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
It might look unassuming, but In My Shadow is a deeply enjoyable puzzle-platforming with great shadow mechanics. The difficulty curve is just right, the puzzles themselves are varied and fun to solve, and I just like positioning armchairs for maximum verticality.
In My Shadow’s story may not be as charming as it thinks it is, but the levels are full of appeal, particularly when you get to mess around with bicycles and other toys. Just watching the shadows each object makes on the wall is oddly soothing, like Resident Evil 7’s lantern puzzles, minus the murder hillbillies. Mind you, you’ll still hold your breath when you leap by a row of shadow-spikes, unsure whether you’ve left quite enough room to clear it.
In My Shadow is a platforming, puzzle game built around controlling shadows, light, and perspective, and it delivered on gameplay; but it is not enough. The story, while sad and even relatable, is not engaging and the game is truly lacking in some key aspects such as music, good translation, and graphics; while bugs constantly make an appearance.
I love the idea of In My Shadow. It has a somewhat intriguing storyline and unique gameplay that show a lot of potential. Bella is not the deepest of main characters, but I did find myself drawn into her story initially. I also really did like the idea of moving objects to solves puzzles found in the shadows. It is an enjoyable game to play, but I just wish there was more to it than what we received.
This game is full of fun-to-solve puzzles with unique mechanics!
