Look, all you need to know about Infernax is that it’s a love letter to the 8-bit era of gaming. It’s a game built on the nostalgia that old timers like you and I have been lusting for since the dawn of 3D gaming. It’s fun, challenging, as much as it is beautiful, and repulsive with its gore-fested visuals. It’s a game that’ll put a smile on your face the moment you boot it up, and keep it until t...
Not very lengthy, but bolstered by strong level design and tight controls, Infernax is a worthwhile experience.
Infernax is a lovingly crafted, gory homage to the bygone days of the NES.
A gory affair, there’s a hell of a lot to like about Infernax. The tried-and-tested gameplay sits alongside purposefully dated but nonetheless charming visuals, but the freedom you have really sets this apart from other games in the genre. Will you save the world or be a blight on it? That’s up to you. And while you may always have good intentions, sometimes your decision can have unexpected resul...
While Infernax is tough, it's resolutely fair — you can't really make the game 'easy', but you can absolutely mitigate the difficulty or take a break doing something else when you get stuck. Don't expect a simple ride, though, and don't expect to take the right decisions on a first playthrough - not that anything seems particularly 'right' in this beautifully bloody little world. It's only familia...
Infernax is a great game that I highly recommend to anyone who loves challenging platformer games that sound and look great. Especially if you don’t mind figuring out what needs to be done next and aren't disgusted by blood and gore.
Given its strict adherence to an ’80s gaming mentality, Team Berzerk’s tough, visceral platform adventure might not be for everyone. But, for those who crave sadomasochistic challenges, doomsday storytelling, and absolute lashings of the red stuff, Infernax offers up a cathartic dose of 8-bit heathenism. Just run through a few FromSoft titles beforehand… You’ll need to warm up, after all.
Infernax is a great retro-styled title that adds in enough ideas of its own to stand up to modern standards. The gory combat and interesting level design maintain interest throughout, and there is lots of potential for replayability through the different moral paths to unlock. If retro gaming is your thing, then Infernax is a great game to add to your collection.
Infernax tries and, for the most part, succeeds at replicating what made the classic 8-bit Castlevania titles so beloved, making a conscious decision of ignoring the improvements of the 16-bit era, while also implementing a few more modern progression elements. The result isn’t the most unique game ever, and a handful of design choices left me slightly puzzled, but what matters is that the game is...
When I set out to review Infernax, I thought I knew what I was getting into. It’s basically just Castlevania with a bloodier aesthetic, I told myself. I was delightfully wrong. As I said in my preview of Infernax, this game is very self-aware about its gory and sometimes schlocky contents. Oddly enough, this allows it to touch on one subject Castlevania never quit for me: religious horror. I won’t...
Even though it was initially difficult and with very basic combat, Infernax wooed me with its comical gore, beautiful music and simple art style. Infernax will not be everyone's cup of tea but if you have a bit of time and want to play something a little different, I can recommend it. Just beware, you initially may need to navigate a bit of a skill wall of sorts to progress.
There is an overabundance of retro-inspired games but here's Infernax; an indie that does quite a decent job of bringing back the past.
