Last Epoch has grown to become the APRG game for ARPG fans with a very passionate dev team. This can be seen in the moment to moment crunchy gameplay, endless stash tabs, and sort button for every inventory. If you're a fan of ARPGs, then you have nothing to lose and everything to gain from giving this gem a try.

Setting aside Soulslikes, action RPGs are my go-to genre. Diablo IV, Path of Exile, Achilles, and the Titan Quest remake are just a handful of recent games that have stolen away the hours from what could have been a productive life. With Last Epoch, my precious gaming time is once again in danger of being happily hijacked. It isn’t perfect, but it’s still a lot of hack-and-lash fun.

Last Epoch is an incredible ARPG thanks to its gameplay mechanics, even though it falls short on its story, and it can be very playable on the Steam Deck with compromises.

Its player-friendly design ensures you have all the tools you need for the job, and rivals such as Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 would do well to pay attention to some of its smartest innovations.

Last Epoch delivers an innovative ARPG experience with exceptional build customization and accessible crafting, bolstered by its refreshing time travel mechanic. However, a weak narrative, limited character customization, and a repetitive endgame loop somewhat hold it back.

The problem is that, like in Lost Ark and Diablo 4, the incentive and reward for exploring and all the work you put into your build go right out the window once you hit the endgame. There’s just not a lot to do after wrapping up the main campaign, and what is there is a little underwhelming. Endgame dungeons are small, you blast through a bunch of enemies, and then that’s it. Diablo 4 and Lost Ark...

A versatile build system allows for experiments with deep skill trees and unusual crafting mechanics - but after the initial excitement of creating those builds, momentum fades.

An action RPG for people who aren't that fussed about action
