Professional reviews from gaming critics
Light Fall takes stunning, yet simple, artistic environments and showers them with relentless obstacles, devious traps, and your tears of frustration. The act of mustering through the stages proves to be a rewarding experience every single time. Undoubtedly, Light Fall is an adventure well worth delving into.
From developer Bishop Games, Light Fall is a simple, aesthetically pleasing platformer that is challenging in its puzzles and perfect landings yet familiar in its art style and overall feel. Players take control of a young boy who awakens in the land of Numbra with no memory of who he is. Guided by a mysterious old owl named Stryx, you’ll navigate the land of Numbra and uncover the truth of who you are and where the people have gone.
As cringingly edgy as this might sound, darkness has never looked so good. Light Fall is an atmospheric, and maddeningly challenging platform set in a dark and magical continent. Playing as a small sprite-like creature you have to explore the hauntingly beautiful, dangerous and empty expanse. Narrated by a strange owl that seems more bored by your presence than interested, it's your job to find out what happened to the people of this land.
The 2D platformer is one of the oldest genres in video games. Even after more than 30 years, we still love running and jumping across uneven platforms and avoiding deadly obstacles. Bishop Games adds a new dimension to this established formula with Light Fall, allowing you to create platforms while jumping. Unfortunately, this cool concept is more promising in theory than in practice, and this unorthodox premise plays like an average platformer.
Overall Light Fall is a nice addition to the platforming genre, with some unique environments, unfortunately it falls short when it comes to difficulty. Adding the ability to create platforms at will seems like a good idea on paper, however it falls short when it allows you to skip large sections of the map with ease.
Light Fall is a 2D Platformer that smoothly delivers on an innovative new concept but fails to live up to its potential.
Light Fall falls lightly onto Switch and Steam! Does this challenging indie platformer fall among the greats, or is it too light of an experience? Let's shed some light on this game!
Light Fall shows potential with its central premise and its core mechanic, but short levels, a run-of-the-mill story, and an all-too-brief campaign make it feel like there's some unrealized potential here. There are hidden items worth finding, but exploration isn't this game's strong suit, mostly because the environments all feel like a different shade of stylistic shadows. As it is, Light Fall is a decent adventure to experience once, but its brightness burns out awfully fast.
