Niffelheim

You have died in glorious combat, and now you join your fallen brothers in the afterlife. Or at least you should have. Instead, you have been sent to the desolate and foggy realm of Niffelheim, instead of the paradise of Asgard. Now you must survive and conquer the beasts and fiends of this realm to get what is yours by right.

Overall Niffelheim hits the mark in regards to setting, story and world building but misses terribly in play mechanics like combat and progression. It's a shame because in many the world begs to be explored and discovered. If you can stomach the grind then I do think there is some charm in this 2D side scroller RPG. However, for the average player, it's going to be tough to see base the deery combat and farming.

Unfortunately, Niffelheim does not possess enough visual appeal despite its gorgeous hand drawings, nor enthralling mechanics or ease of access for non-genre enthusiasts like myself.

As I mentioned, this was my first taste of games of this ilk, but I probably should have known what I was getting in to what with already having a distaste for grind-heavy games. I feel like I would’ve had more fun with this title if I didn’t have to spend so much time wandering around for materials or tapping the triangle button in the mines for 15 minutes at a time.
