You're trapped in a maze-like Hell in Scathe, but while the shooting is solid, the rest of the game may put you into a haze.
Scathe has a lot of clever and interesting ideas. Unfortunately, it’s the execution that lets it down. Somewhere underneath the agonizingly-slow progression, pointless plot, and a visual mess as a result of its desire to also be a bullet hell, Scathe is a game with potential that’s sadly never reached.
Demon-killing shooter Scathe promises to be more than just a Doom clone, but does it really bring anything new to the table?
While the gameplay concept of a labyrinthine shooter holds some promise, the gunplay is flat and mowing through enemies is extremely tedious. On top of this, graphics and some technical issues make Scathe feel rather rough around the edges.
Scathe is a fast-paced co-op-focused bullet hell FPS, where you as the titular protagonist must explore a hellish maze and mow down demons by the hundreds. Although the concept of a co-op, bullet-hell take on DOOM is one that certainly has merit, Scathe’s execution of said concept leaves something to be desired.
