Playing as a ninja almost always makes for good times. Thankfully, Shadow Blade: Reload is here to provide even more fast-paced action. When you're ready, unsheathe your blade and let's slice through this adventure.
After reading the review written by Nicholas Plouffe on our site I was curious how Shadow Blade: Reload would perform on a console instead of the PC. As he suggests, it is a lot easier to maneuver around the levels having the mobility of a controller. I found that the general premise of the game is not unique, as it feels like your typical classic arcade platformer, however it plays well and the graphics and animation add a comic book feel to the game.
Shadow Blade Reload is a fun game, but it's not an interesting game. It has several things going for it, like the striking visuals, quick gameplay, and the level editor. But mostly it falters as the distracting voice acting and low-level difficulty hold the game back enough that it can't be considered all that impressive of a title.
In the event that you are looking for a ninja game on the Nintendo Switch, you can do far better. Shadow Blade: Reload is not a terrible game by any means, but it doesn’t do anything to make it worth playing over others in the genre. Quick gameplay is constantly undermined attempts to slow you down with story or collectibles. There is no sense of identity, leaving the impression that this is just another ninja game for the pile. Lackluster presentation, a boring story, and repetitive scenarios show exactly why Shadow Blade: Reload can’t rival the likes of The Messenger or even the original…
While Shadow Blade: Reload may not re-invent the platformer genre, it is both pretty to look at and fun to play. With multiple stages, collectables, difficulties, and challenges there’s more than enough ninja action to keep Kuro busy for a while.
