Tales of Berseria Remastered is an odd release. The original game is still a good time problems and all, but this release feels less like a remaster and more like a port with some additions. It has all the DLC from the original but that just amounts to costumes, and it has some nice quality-of-life updates but nothing to buy a new game over. Still, this is a fine way to play Tales of Berseria especially now that it's finally on Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
Tales of Berseria Remastered offers several new quality-of-life features that are great for new players but not necessary for longtime fans who have already experienced all the game has to offer.
Is Tales of Berseria Remastered worth a double dip? Absolutely not. There’s no reason to get it if you already own the regular game (unless you have completionist OCD). Bandai Namco needs to be careful they don’t lose any good will with their fans, when so many other companies are offering free PS5 upgrades to PS4 games. But Remastered is now the best version of Berseria because of its few changes. It’s an excellent action JRPG. If you don’t already own it, Tales of Berseria Remastered has a phenomenal story, and fun combat. So get it if you haven’t already.
Tales of Berseria Remastered may not really add much to the base game, but it's still a fantastic JRPG that you'd be a fool to miss.
Tales of Berseria Remastered makes this harrowing adventure much easier to experience, but it still doesn’t do enough to fix the issues that plagued the original release.
A visually stagnant retread of a modern classic, Tales of Berseria Remastered struggles to justify its price tag for returning players.
Experience the harrowing tale of Velvet Crowe in Tales of Berseria Remastered with plenty of new costumes and quality of life improvements.
I'm a long time fan of the Tales of games, and I personally love that this release, along with the other recent remasters, received a physical version with some extra bells and whistles. That said, the urge to buy Tales of Berseria Remastered isn't really all that strong, as this experience essentially exists on modern hardware already.
Tales of Berseria Remastered marks the re-release of one of the best entries in the series. The remaster itself is fairly solid, although some minor texture and lighting issues persist throughout.
Tales of Berseria Remastered takes an already great JRPG, tidies up its visuals, and adds some welcome quality of life features. It's the fact that it also includes most of the game's DLC and brings it to more formats that should make it particularly appealing though, especially to newcomers.
Tales of Berseria Remastered shows that risks do pay off when breaking from tradition. A dynamic combat system and darker storyline work wonders to separate it from other entries. Going on an adventure to reclaim what’s been stolen from you is as entertaining as it is dramatic and thanks to great additions like map markers and updated framerate, it’s the best way to experience one of the franchise’s strongest stories yet.
Tales of Berseria is one of the most narratively ambitious entries in the franchise, and it still hits heights few other RPGs can – and packs in a few new bells and whistles to boot.
