Batman Arkham VR is one hell of an experience. It’s definitely one of my favourite VR launch titles due to the fact that it takes a set of well-known characters and lets you engage with them and Gotham like you’d never thought was possible. It’s something that every gamer or comic book enthusiast needs to experience. Overall, I was left wanting more and I definitely think that there was more potential with the gadgets that the game provides, but I was satisfied with how immersive the game is, which after all is the main intention of VR.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land takes the Kirby franchise to new heights in new and interesting ways. Whilst it's not the full step forward that I was hoping for, it's still super enjoyable and excites me for what could be next in the Kirby series.
Dead Space 3 feels more complete than the previous games in the series. Fans had a lot of worries once they heard that the game would incorporate co-op and would feature micro transactions but majority of what has been added is extremely welcome in creating a more well rounded game. Visceral have added enough new puzzles and introduced new necromorphs at the right time to make the game feel fresh from start to finish. Even though I didn’t love the addition of human enemies (as it just isn’t as fun as cutting off Necromorphs limbs), I didn’t feel like it took away from the game at all. I didn’t find myself getting as scared as I did in the previous 2 games but I think that it’s just because I knew what to expect. The atmosphere is better than ever and thats what i’m after from the Dead Space series.
If you’ve got a friend to sit down with or an online buddy then you’ll definitely have mindless fun with this game. There is still fun to be had if you’re playing by yourself but don’t expected to be wowed by the production values or story. Most of the replayability comes in the form of weapons and weapon upgrade and this is easily the games best asset.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will go down as one of the best launch titles of all time. Yes, technically it’s a Wii U game that was ported over to the Nintendo Switch, but Nintendo made the right decision in holding this game back. It perfectly compliments the Nintendo Switch and highlights why it has the potential to be such a great and versatile console. Many have doubted Nintendo’s ability to bring this series into the modern age of gaming, but they’ve done that and taken it one step further in creating one of the best open-world action-adventure games ever made.
Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is a fantastic package that showcases what makes Nintendo games so special. Super Mario 3D World is just as good as when it released, and Bower's Fury is a surprisingly good standalone adventure that paves the way for the future of Mario.
I don’t know how Nintendo continues to do it, but they’ve managed to reinvent another classic franchise and push it further than imaginable. Super Mario Odyssey is the game that we’ve been waiting to play for more than 20 years. It feels like it borrows key elements from almost every Mario game that has come before it to create what is possibly not only the greatest Mario game, but one of the best 3D platformers of all time.
Mario Party Superstars is a fun, nostalgic ride and will provides hours of fun among groups of friends. However, it's hard not to look at what else could be added when there's such a rich pool of content to pull from, and most other games have launched with more on offer.
New Pokemon Snap really captures what has made Pokemon popular for so many years. It gives a new life to so many Pokemon that we've known and loved over the years and provides a relaxing relief from the plethora of action games on the market. I don't know if a lot of the padding was necessary, but I still enjoyed every second of my time with the game.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the perfect follow up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It’s fun regardless of whether you’re playing alone, with friends on the couch or taking the race online. It lends itself perfectly to the portability of the Nintendo Switch and there’s just enough new content to warrant a purchase for those that owned the original game on the Nintendo Wii U.
