I must also praise Kojima for offering up a game that is not simply engaging and cinematic, but is one that also grants the player some agency in how the story plays out. From the start, I was hooked, despite this being my first foray into the Metal Gear franchise. That being said, while the game serves as a sequel to Ground Zeroes, it works equally just as well as a standalone.

Now, the amount of detail put into every facet of this game cannot be understated, a notion that comes across perhaps most evidently within the environment. Games like those of the Assassin’s Creed franchise may feature open world maps, but comparatively, I have to admit that their scale feels quite unrealistically small when you look at the world of Wild Hunt. It is truly vast, often necessitating the need for a horse to traverse the landscape.

If I have anything positive to say about the combat system, it is that the game offered up some interesting special attacks. These attacks carried on between each battle, and gave me the freedom to strategically charge them up during a minion battle, and save their use for a boss battle. A particular favourite of mine was the ‘Declaration of Destruction’ that accompanied the Thomas Jefferson’s costume, and came with a neat little cutscene.
