MLB The Show 25
3.5

MLB The Show 25 offers several improvements to Sony's iterative baseball title. San Diego Studio continues to produce an excellent baseball game. Whether or not it's enough to replace your copy of The Show 24 or even 23 is a different story, as the additions are good but not so much to make last year's title a lame duck.

Fragpunk's bold decision to break almost every rule in the book leads to a captivating shooter.

I’ve come along on the Final Fantasy XIV journey as enthusiastically as most of my peers, but I wasn’t planning on jumping into Dawntrail right away. Endwalker didn’t quite do it for me, and I was content to let my subscription lay dormant. Thank goodness it came across my work desk despite my apathy, because Dawntrail has taken over Shadowbringers as my favorite slice of storytelling in Final Fantasy XIV. Wuk Lamat’s journey, from its early sense of adventure and optimism to its second half full of sadness and existential dread, is the complete package. It’s a well-told, concise, and earnest story that avoids all the pitfalls I was worried about and took me to places I was not emotionally prepared for. I could actually see myself replaying Dawntrail in its entirety just to pore back over this adventure and look for missed details and re-experience the highs and lows. That’s a first for me, nearly a thousand hours in.

Looking back at my time with Stellar Blade, I believe it has the potential to turn into a franchise instead of just a one off deal. There is still a good deal of story to tell involving Mother Sphere, potentially even a prequel so we can see how things got so bad on Earth in the first place. With Stellar Blade being just the second game from this South Korean studio, the future looks incredibly bright.

This neon-soaked mystery game is Kodaka’s best work to date.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus may only dabble in mechanics and formulas nearly every other role-playing game has mastered, but Game Freak succeeds here far more than it stumbles. Combined with a unique ingredient — the most successful franchise of all time, beloved by hundreds of millions — the developer proves Pokémon works as a modern RPG and that future installments could potentially outmatch other games in the genre.

If you answered any of those questions as yes, and you own a PS5, Xbox Series X, high-end PC, or Google Stadia, then you should buy Cyberpunk 2077. The neon world is packed with hi-tech toys and simulated friends that’ll keep you engrossed for weeks. The best part? It’s now a year old, so you’ll get a blockbuster game at a bargain bin price.

CALL OF DUTY: BLACK OPS COLD WAR REVIEW FOR PC, PS5, PS4, XBOX SERIES X|S, AND XBOX ONE. Not even a year like 2020 can stop Call of Duty‘s annual release. Developer Treyarch Studios has delivered Black Ops Cold War on time, despite the pandemic and the fact that it’s only been two years since Black Ops 4. Upon first boot, I was half-expecting evidence of rushing to the finish line, but the new Call of Duty for 2020 delivers three polished segments. Here’s the verdict on multiplayer after hitting Prestige, zombies after a dozen lengthy rounds, and also a run-through of the campaign.

Last week was a hell of a week. I spent it with AC Valhalla, at the side of Eivor, a brave warrior from Norway, who went to England with a bunch of friends to build her house.

The final edition of Mafia caused much excitement among the fans – after all, the studio known for problematic Mafia 3 tackles a legend. The final result is more than pleasing, although not without a few blemishes – still, Hangar 13 shows how it's done.
