I'd had Mixtape on my radar since its announcement, though recent years have somewhat discouraged me from any Life is Strange imitators. Fortunately, this game turned out to be a game of its own—and it offers more than just nostalgia.

Ascendance is the first new game in the iconic Legacy of Kain series in 23 years (excluding the multiplayer Nosgoth, which never made it past beta testing). What awaits us here? Well... if you're familiar with The Dead Shall Rise comic, you know the answer.
Adventure and survival parts of The Alters were reduced to a minimum, so that the story, choices and interactions with alters could serve as the main course. Unfortunately this particular meal left me feeling hungry, but that is due to my personal preferences. If you want something new and fresh among games that make you manage a base with a little exploration, and a little survival, The Alters looks bold and original.
When South of Midnight fully commits to its unique ideas and inspirations, carried by Olivier Deriviere's outstanding score, it is great. But when it is afraid to step out of the line, we get a standard, solid action-adventure with an oldschool vibe. If only the gameplay designers would inject more creative juice into their work, it would be a fantastic game. As it is, it’s simply good.
