To say Mina the Hollower has been a highly anticipated title is an understatement. Yacht Club Games built their reputation with Shovel Knight, with players embracing the retro style and gameplay elements. Mina the Hollower is more of that classic 8-bit style, with gameplay to boot, and while it has some great execution as a retro Zelda-style adventure, it also comes with some questionable decisions.
Motorslice is an anime-styled action game that mixes giant bosses, parkour traversal, and a minimalist design. On paper, it’s a blend that should work really well. Yet Motorslice veers between moments of excellence and many, many moments of frustration. Across the 11 hours it took me to complete it, Motorslice drew me in at various points and at others pushed me away so hard that I had to knuckle down to get to the end. That cut through the logo? That’s the good, seperated from the bad.
Getting separated from your family as a child is a traumatic experience, and that’s before the terror of living through a forest fire cutting through your home. The baby boar Boris doesn’t let this phase him, setting out to find his brothers, sisters and mum in Adorable. Despite being set after a natural disaster, Adorable Adventures is a pretty chill game with only one part of the map noticeably affected, while the rest of the small world filled with dense forests, open moor, and a mountain to climb and explore.
Hyper Games has returned with a second game within the world of the Moomins, following 2024’s Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley with Moomintroll: Winter’s Warmth. Moomintroll is having to deal with winter for the first time, having been woken up at a time where he’d normally be hibernating and finding a world that’s unrecognisable to him.
I’ll be honest, before reviewing Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers I hadn’t heard of the Rushing Beat series. If, like me, you’re unfamiliar with these games, there were three Rushing Beat titles released in the early 1990’s. Rushing Beat X: Return of Brawl Brothers is both a revival and a sequel, carrying on the narrative of the original games, continuing the iconic brawling, and bringing the series kicking and punching into the modern era.
MIO: Memories In Orbit can be described in four words: beautiful, engaging, challenging, and frustrating. It is a game that will be those who really like a tough as nails platforming and boss fights, but it will frustrate those who do not like getting stuck on sections because your reaction times come up short. I fall somewhere in the middle of the two camps, with the game’s story taking me nearly 50 hours to complete, and there are still some sections of The Vessel I have yet to see.
