Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is a stellar entry in the Nicktoons franchise. While the story is only alright and the game sways to the easy side, I found myself having loads of fun with this entry. Newcomers to the genre are sure to have a blast with the characters and themes presented.
Nicktoons and the Dice of Destiny is exactly what you're expecting it to be, and probably more! With standard ARPG elements mixed with classic characters from the Nickelodeon universe, this game straddles the line between compelling gameplay and frivolous fun. A great blend of nostalgia and gaming!
Nicktoons & the Dice of Destiny feels a little like Baby's First Diablo at times, but it's a surprisingly good take on the ARPG genre, suitable for kids and adults alike. Filled with familiar Nickelodeon characters, and packed with humour (and loot!), there's a lot to like.
The last few Nickelodeon-themed games published by GameMill have been impressive surprises, especially when it comes to their take on the karting genre, but I never thought I’d ever play a Nickelodeon-themed action RPG inspired by Diablo and Path of Exile, and for said game to end up being, like, quite good. Ravioli, ravioli, give me the ARPGuoli
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is an entertaining action RPG for newcomers, but its performance on Switch is disappointing.
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny has some promise with its stacked cast of characters but never pulls the idea off. Middling gameplay, poor visuals, and mediocre writing really hold it back.
A Nickelodeon dungeons and dragons style mash up sounds very good on paper, drawing on characters from across their many different IP to take up various roles from a tabletop fantasy RPG. That’s what Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny does that well, as Timmy from Fairly Oddparents transforms into a wizard and SpongeBob becomes a knight, but outside of the cartoon mashup, this is quite a basic game.
Nicktoons & The Dice of Destiny is loaded with nostalgia, callbacks to famous scenes and lines, but ultimately isn't as good as it could be. The limited fantasy setting, monotonous combat and underwhelming world map are helped slightly by its wonderfully authentic voices and fun story. If you grew up watching these cartoons, chances are you'll be charmed by the respect paid to them like I was, but find that the quest itself is not quite as good as just watching your favorite episodes again.
