Control was a fantastic single-player title, and FBC: Firebreak is a spin-off of it. It is also the first multiplayer-focused release from Remedy. Set six years after Control, you are an agent of the FBC, tasked with various jobs around your company’s ever-shifting base. Firebreak is a three-player cooperative “horde-mode with tasks” game that is light on content, fun, and loses everything that made the original so good.
Lost In Random: The Eternal Die is a solid little rogue-lite, featuring the antagonist of the first game. That was a third-person action-adventure title. Here we’re in isometric camera land. It’s quick, is just the right length, and full of fun callbacks to the original. The screen can get a bit busy, and some might find it a smidge too easy. Let’s break down the good (lots) and bad (fewer lots).
RoadCraft is the latest MudRunner offshoot from Saber Interactive. It takes the “how to get there” puzzle of the Runner games and lets you build roads, chop down trees, create bridges and more to rebuild areas devastated by catastrophic weather events. It’s big, a ton of fun in co-op, and a serene but slow experience solo.
Revenge of the Savage Planet is coming to Xbox and is Day One in Game Pass. It’s a long-awaited sequel, that turned into a miracle production after the game’s developers were bought and then shut down by Google. I’m glad they fought back to life, crafting a fun, clever, and beautifully stupid action-platformer that should leave anyone delighted.
South of Midnight is a stunningly beautiful and moving experience. While the gameplay doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, it combines excellent writing and music to move your soul in ways only the best games can. This title is an enormous step-up for Compulsion Games, and I hope this isn’t the last we see from Hazel Flood.
