Maybe it has a lot to do with my newfound love for Junker Queen, the hyper-aggressive frontline tank. Like all my favorite heroes, her toolkit is a complex combination of disparate abilities that force you to rely on split-second intuition. It helps that, like Roadhog and Junkrat, she looks like she stepped right out of a Mad Max movie.

Boring library trips aside, I’d rather have only vocal work during cutscenes and have to read most text than endure the neverending string of grunts and chuckles, or worse, Waltaquin’s insane cackle. If you skip through most dialogue, vaguely pay attention to the story, and focus on the intensely enjoyable combat encounters, then the game’s 25-hour runtime is well worth it. The combat itself is good enough to serve as the basis of an entire DioField franchise if Square Enix is so inclined, and it's memorable enough that I could see this game becoming a cult classic.

I may be a shameless simp who grew up with classic Halo LAN parties where I demolished my trash friends and sees Halo Infinite as a dream come true, but I am far from alone in that. Play Halo Infinite on an Xbox Series X on the biggest and best screen possible, and it’ll be the best game experience of 2021 — maybe even 2022.

As it stands now, Chivalry II is a thrilling and addictive experience that’s hard to put down once you’ve acclimated to the sheer terror of battle, and it’s only getting better over time. The public roadmap promises new game modes and weapon types before the end of the year. And sometime next year, there will be new maps and even horses added to the mix.

As if to punctuate the protagonist’s time away from home, most loading screens are random journal entries from Yonah about her affection and longing for her brother. She wants to cook or sing for him, to repay all of his kindness and dedication. Replicant is a tender story of love between siblings and how devotion to a singular purpose can destroy and save the world in equal measure. They’re provocative existential questions worth exploring — if you have the patience to do the work. 7/10.

Fenyx’s nerdy charm really carries the story. Her enthusiasm for mythology is infectious. But the game’s monotony lingers in the background, whether that’s through level design or combat encounters. Still, at a breezy runtime — story-focused playthroughs take about 30 hours — and with such stunning vistas, even Zeus, famous for his harsh judgment, would forgive the game’s developers. 7/10

It might even be perfect if Link were more than just a generic vessel of badassery. He could be the strong and silent type like Master Chief from Halo, communicating with the same ruthless efficiency he uses to slaughter countless Covenant and Flood. He could even be strange and quirky, but brave and strong like Cloud Strife from Final Fantasy VII Remake. Literally anything would be more interesting — at least to me — than this lazy blank slate.

We played through the PlayStation 4 version of Miles Morales on a Vissles-M portable screen with HDR enabled, and it looked stunning. Especially with the Peter Parker redesign that makes him look more like Tom Holland and less like a Muppet, graphics looked far improved over the first game, even if the load times felt a bit too long at times. Experiencing the game on a next-gen console with a TV worthy of the graphical fidelity will truly feel like a worthwhile PS5 launch title. 9/10

Now, more than eight years later, Amalur has a second chance to resurrect lofty ambitions for an ongoing universe that, in our wildest dreams, could one day include that action MMORPG. THQ Nordic now owns the full IP, so in theory, the company could do whatever they want with it. Books, animated Netflix series, sequel games, and even that MMO are all possible.
