EA Sports UFC 5

EA Sports UFC 5

If EA Sports UFC came out every year, I wouldn’t feel as pessimistic about UFC 5, but after a three-year wait, this is only a serviceable attempt at best; you will only have as much fun as the people you match up with want to. Too many legacy issues are glued onto this game, and it’s such a shame that EA Vancouver doesn’t have any desire to do anything other than this odd half-live service deal with outfits.

The Crew Motorfest is a driving game for people who enjoy those types of games more than anything else in life. With over 600 real-world vehicles, there really is something for everyone, but that’s the problem. There’s something for everyone, but it may only be one thing. Also exacerbated by a packed and yet cumbersome live service system, this game is harder to recommend than I want it to be.

F1 23 takes big swings, and most of them pay off. F1 World is a solid foundation that can be built on year after year, and Braking Point is an engaging story mode you can play through once. But the general shift into more multiplayer focus without the proper tools to make it function fluidly leave this more of a game for full cockpit racing sim heads than regular race fans.

Street Fighter 6
8.5

Street Fighter 6 is a game you can show someone who’s never played fighting games. It’s a game I’ll probably play for this entire generation. Street Fighter 6 isn’t just one of the best games I’ve played this year, it’s a game that has unlocked an entire genre for me. A completely new way of thinking has been opened, where I no longer think about how difficult something is to do but how much more I have to learn.
