Nobody was expecting Sloclap, a studio made famous by their martial-arts focused action games, to release a competitive multiplayer football game. The pivot from Sifu initially seems crazy, but I can understand why Sloclap felt they were up to the challenge. The studio has experimented with multiplayer before with Absolver and has created hundreds of athletic body animations. Still, Rematch is a very ambitious title, and thankfully, one that sticks the landing.
As I ventured through Bionic Bay, I kept feeling this warm sense of nostalgia, like returning to an older era of indie gaming. Several factors contribute to this. MainFrames grabs attention with its charming art style and brilliant concept for a platformer. Exploring the world of a dying computer sounds so cool, like a digital version of The Pedestrian. Instead, MainFrames ends up as an unimpressive experience, but not one that’s outright bad either. It’s simply mediocre, and disappointingly fails to fulfil the potential of the exciting premise.
