The Atelier franchise has been around for 20 years as of 2017. I was exposed to it some 11 years ago with the Atelier Iris trilogy, but haven’t really had a chance to get to know the new generation of titles. I was excited to see just how much the series had evolved through the lens of Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey and discovered a whole new world through its eyes.

Final Fantasy XV
Unscored

Final Fantasy XV takes place in the world of Eos. With the exception of the Kingdom of Lucis, all the world’s countries and territories are under control of the empire of Nifleheim and their vast magitek armies. Noctis Lucis Caelum, the crown prince of Lucis sets out to marry his childhood love Lunafreya Nox Fleuret, but on the way discovers news of Nifleheim’s betrayal of Lucis on the day of the peace treaty signing. Thus his quest transcends into one not only of love, but of recovery...

Whoever came up with the idea of crossing mechs and a first person shooter with competitive sport is an absolute genius. RIGS: Mechanized Combat League is a triumph among virtual reality titles, and if you haven’t got it yet, please consider doing so.

I would like to clear the air to begin with for this piece. The extent of my racing game experience revolves around Mario Kart, which I feel I’m pretty good at. Driveclub VR takes that experience to a different level, and while I kind of sucked at it, I can definitely appreciate what the game attempts to do.

Here They Lie

I love a good horror game, indeed horror games and I go back a long way. Virtual reality has one of the greatest potentials in horror games in my opinion, and my first taste of this potential came in the form of Here They Lie.

EVE: Valkyrie
Unscored

EVE: Valkyrie was the first Playstation VR title I purchased, so it makes sense that it is the first one I review. EVE: Valkyrie is a multiplayer dogfighter shooting game set in the EVE Online Universe. You awaken as a clone pilot who has to piece together fragmented memories of the events that saw you join the Valkyrie and take wing under their flag. As you play you become aware of the disregard for life a particular space titan has, as well as how far that Ran Kavik, leader of the Valkyrie...

Dishonored 2

Jakob: Dishonored 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to Arkane Studio’s initial masterpiece in 2012, and I am glad to say that it doesn’t disappoint. Set fifteen years after the events of Dishonored, Corvo has successfully restored Emily to the throne after being framed for her mother’s murder and Dunwall has seemingly flourished under her rule.  That being said, a gruesome series of murders, conducted by the “Crown Killer”, has been targeting Emily’s enemies, leading many of t...

World of Final Fantasy
Unscored

World of Final Fantasy was first announced at E3 2015 as a 30 year celebratory title. Even though I only caught wind of it a bit later than that, I have been dying to play this game ever since.  Set in the world of Grymoire you play as the twins Lann and Reynn, who each hold the power to capture and train creatures known as mirages in your quest to fulfil a 100 year old prophecy. Guided by a cute fox like mirage by the name of Tama, World of Final Fantasy is an all-star smorgasbord of Square...

Mafia III
Unscored

Mafia 3 is the latest installment in the Mafia series from Hangar 13, published by 2K games. Set in 1968 in the fictional adaptation of New Orleans, New Bordeaux, it follows the story of Lincoln Clay. Returning from Vietnam and re-engaging with the black mafia, Lincoln’s world is thrown upside down when his mob family is brutally murdered around him.  After “recovering”, his sole purpose is revenge. No one is safe from Lincoln’s dream of becoming the new top dog.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the newest addition to the Deus Ex universe. The year is 2029 and mechanically augmented humans have become segregated from their “natural” counterparts as a result of the global killing spree (known as the Aug incident) initiated by a maniacal purist 2 years prior.
