Achilles: Legends Untold Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Achilles: Legends Untold brings history's strongest warrior to video games in epic fashion. Fans of Soulslikes - or action RPGs in general - shouldn't hesitate to pick it up.
Action RPG fans aren’t likely to be wowed by Achilles: Legends Untold, but chances are they’ll have some fun with it if they give it a go. There’s nothing wholly original or particularly impressive here, but it offers a solid experience for those keen to immerse themselves in a fantasy world inspired by Greek myth.
The Greek Myths have been plundered by video game developers to such a degree it’s hard to conceive that a fresh take could be even possible. Remarkably, Achilles: Legends Untold offers just that. This action-adventure might be a little rough around the edges, but that arguably adds to its charm. If you can put up with some nasty difficulty spikes then you’ll find a remarkable world of myths and legends to explore.
In a field crowded with competitors, Achilles: Legends Untold does everything it can to set itself apart from the pack. A story setting that hasn’t been explored as much in the isometric combat arena, a fighting system that flows very smoothly using whichever weapon a player wants, and large areas to explore and fight in. Achilles: Legends Untold is a serviceable indie Soulslike experience with an isometric camera angle that doesn’t introduce anything revolutionary. Don’t be fooled by the Diablo-esque visual style either, because this is not a dungeon crawling looter. There’s no doubt that the game is in a much better state than it was in Early Access, but it still suffers from some core issues with its gameplay mechanics.
It has been a month since Dark Point Games took action RPG Achilles: Legends Untold out of Steam Early Access and into full release. Dark Point Games claims that you should “Prepare for a legendary action RPG with intense souls-like combat.” Like most souls-likes, you will find a health, stamina, and fury bar in Achilles: Legends Untold, but the similarities stop there. With unbalanced combat and limited loot mechanics, Achilles: Legends Untold is more ho-hum than legendary.
The Dark Point Games release Achilles: Legends Untold offers a solid foundation, with the beginnings of an interesting plot. Unfortunately, it’s too early to tell what the full release of Achilles: Legends Untold will look like. So, for now, if you are interested in supporting the team at Dark Point Games. You can pick up their newest release, Achilles: Legends Untold, for $19.99 on the Steam Early Access program. But beware, there isn’t much to the game just yet. Additionally, if you are interested in learning more about the team at Dark Point Games, you can check them out on their developmen...
