I’m not usually one to gravitate towards twin-stick shooters, but when I picked up Akane, I felt as though I was playing something special. With its fun comba
Akane is a sleek, stylish arena fighter that feels right at home on the Nintendo Switch. The simplicity of its premise and the stylish presentation are equally matched by its fun one-more-go gameplay. Akane is a game that does one thing and does it exceptionally well; its biggest flaw is that there simply isn’t enough of it. Give me more damn it!
Were you a fan of kung-fu movies growing up? Maybe the genre-defining cyberpunk classics like Blade Runner? There is something deeply satisfying about those ending scenes in the rain, surrounded by your enemies as you take your last stand, so why not play a game about just that? From developer Ludic Studios, Akane is a game drowning in simplicity that will challenge you to be better and focus more acutely than you might expect. With katana in one hand and a pistol in the other, Akane is a game about self-improvement through extreme trial and error in a fantastic cyberpunk-like setting.
A strong debut title from Ludic Studios and one to play on and off when you want a sword fight with no strings attached.
Alone, Akane stands. The glow of the neon wasteland brightens her view. A cigarette slowly burns as she tightens her grip on her katana. A swarm of gangsters closes in. She fights, knowing she may die by the end. Survive the fight against the entire criminal world with Akane, a stylized survival-action game that tests one's gameplay might. Live or die, blood will rain far and wide.
