Among Ashes

One of the most original horror games I've played, Among Ashes presents a game within a game which quickly draws you in and keeps you captivated until the credits roll. Considering this is the work of a solo developer, it's hugely impressive and deserves a place amongst 2024's highlights.

Among Ashes is the latest first-person horror game to enter the highly populated market. However, this new horror elevates itself with their unique gimmick of playing a game inside another game. Alongside this it's the first horror in a while to get me to jump out of my seat. Check out our review of Among Ashes down below.

Among Ashes is a breath of fresh air in a packed genre of first-person survival horror titles. A game within a game with an interwoven story hits a lot more than it misses with great puzzles and fantastic sound design. It's just a shame the combat isn't up to par with the rest of the experience.

Among Ashes is an intriguing horror game with great atmosphere, but it suffers from too many small issues, including mediocre Steam Deck performance.

Despite its flaws, the unsettling atmosphere and experimental narrative make Among Ashes a fascinating experience for horror fans.

While Among Ashes has a great premise and takes advantage of it through interesting gameplay choices, the bland story, excessive puzzles, and numerous glitches make for a flawed experience that I wouldn’t recommend spending money on until some of the issues are fixed.
