Disc Jam

Some of the best sports games are the ones that take a real sport, boil it down to its essence, and rebuild it as something totally new. The biggest example of this is Rocket League: soccer with cars. Now, a new contender steps out of early access and is ready to be recognized. Disc Jam is a mashup of tennis and air hockey where players scramble to catch and throw a glowing disc to be the first team to 50 points. It’s fast-paced, deceptively competitive, and a helluva good time.

After a brief beta period, Disc Jam has now launched on PS4 as one of March's PlayStation Plus titles. However, is it worth adding to your instant game collection?

It's time for a new sport to enter the world once again, but this time on the Nintendo Switch! In this futuristic mesh of frisbee and tennis expect some fast-paced matches and a host of different challenges. Do this port and game live up to its exciting idea?

High Horse Entertainment, the tiny two-person team behind futuristic PlayStation 4 frisbee-'em-up, is a big fan of two things: Windjammers and Rocket League. It's hard not to compare the launch of this sphere slingin' sports title with Psyonix's soccer cars – it's launching as a PlayStation Plus freebie and is even structured similarly to the iconic indie, after all. Unfortunately, while the gameplay loop's pretty good, the polish isn't quite there.

We’ve all probably flung a frisbee at some point in our lives. Most likely at least one person reading this review right now will be claiming they’ve totally gone pro whilst at a picnic one day. But thanks to High Horse Entertainment we can all now be ultimate frisbee champions with Disc Jam, the latest addition to the Nintendo Switch’s online store.
