Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King Reviews

Professional reviews from gaming critics

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King provides the definitive versions of both games with enough extras to keep your entertained until the cows come home.

All in all, you get exactly what you expect with the Disney Classic Games: The Lion King and Aladdin collection. While Aladdin got some nice upgrades and inclusions with the Final Cut version and the demo, The Lion King feels like it got the short end of the stick. If you adore these games and you think you can get your $30 out of it, by all means, go out and pick up a copy. Otherwise, I’m not sure there’s enough here to warrant a pick up by someone who has no idea what they are getting themselves into.

Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King is a delightful collection for two of the greats of their generation.

If you were a 16-bit gamer, get ready for a welcomed dose of nostalgia with Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King. This release isn't just about fond

Video games based on Disney films are some of the best retro experiences and here we have a revival of 2 16-bit classics.

Replaying Aladdin and The Lion King in 2019 is at once an exciting form of time travel and a frustrating retread through two troubled tie-ins.

Oct 31, 2019

Whether you believe it or not, there was a time when licensed video game movie tie-ins were good. Aladdin and The Lion King were two of the finest examples of such games back then and have both been brought back to life by Disney and Digital Eclipse (the developers behind Mega Man Legacy Collection and Disney Afternoon Collection) on Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC as DISNEY CLASSIC GAMES: ALADDIN AND THE LION KING. Given the breadth of content and respectful amount of extras, it’s the definitive edition of these games for those who have fond memories of them while also being a decent p...

The timing for the Disney Classic Games collection of Aladdin and The Lion King couldn't be farther from what I'd expect. Both newly released films have already run their theatrical releases but at least this release of classic platformers could be tied to that of the Blu-ray releases (The Lion King only just hit store shelves last week). For fans that are watching either of the new movies, or aiming for a rewatch of the classics on Disney+, is the Disney Classic Games collection one hit ahead of the flock?

Back when I was a kid, it seemed like almost every popular movie had their own licensed game. Most of them were pretty terrible though. There were however, two games that really stood out to me as well done and fun movie based games. Those were Aladdin and The Lion King, both produced by Virgin and Disney Interactive. Now, over twenty-five years later, they are both being ported to the Switch. Does the magic from my youth hold up to today’s standards or does it fall short? Let’s hop onto ...

Unless you still love playing retro video games today, you’re likely to find playing Aladdin and The Lion King an arduous experience. Even if you loved the games as a kid, they’re unlikely to live up to your memories. Disney Classic Games: Aladdin and The Lion King is a nicely presented collection with some nice features, but don’t expect to be blown away by the games.

Nowadays, a tie-in game usually alludes to a mediocre experience all round. After years of bad tie-in games based off everything to make its way out of a cinema, it’s hard to imagine that a video game based off a movie could be good. Back in the day though, Disney was pumping out games to tie-in with their most recent motion pictures and for games based off movies they were usually perceived pretty well. Disney’s Aladdin and The Lion King were two of the games that people fond of retro Di...
