Thankfully, you can play the game offline with all the characters unlocked. You can participate in the multiplayer modes, too, with a rotating selection of guest racers. As the game proceeds, we’ll be getting new tracks and characters every two months, so there will be a regular stream of content incoming for Disney Speedstorm.

With a potentially boundless universe of characters, worlds and more to tap into, Disney Speedstorm could conceivably provide fans of the House of Mouse with a steady diet of endless Disney themed content to get stuck into. Gorgeous to look at super satisfying to play, Disney Speedstorm's pay to win mechanics aren't sufficiently weighty to substantially detract from everything that it does right and for fans of both all things Walt Disney and kart racing, Disney Speedstorm will likely prove to be an irresistible proposition that could largely mitigate the grind of its longer term prospects.

During the 8 and 16-bit era, Disney released a number of games that are still considered classics in the medium. Titles such as Ducktales and Aladdin captured the magic of the cartoon and managed to translate it into a wonderful video game. While there has been a stint of mediocrity with releases that sport the conglomerate’s name, it appears that Disney has drifted past the speedbumps and is back on track. With the successes of Dreamlight Valley in their rearview mirror and the hype surrounding Illusion Island on the horizon, Mickey and Co. look to shift into top gear with Disney Speedstorm. Will this cross-franchise, karting extravaganza be able to compete against the crowd of other family-friendly racers?

Disney Speedstorm delivers solid karting action with fantastic handling and clearly spends a lot of care and attention on its characters and courses. Its performance on Switch lets it down, though, especially on handheld where it's a blurry, stuttery mess, and those not interested in the live service setup will struggle to get along with it.

Disney Speedstorm is a game that I can see myself returning to, both for the new seasons and to dive into high-action races with my favorite characters.
