Professional reviews from gaming critics
With mostly gorgeous visuals, solid lighting, and excellent on-screen tutorials for all the tools, Farming Simulator hooked me in right away. I’d love it if future versions had a “free play” mode, where you don’t have to worry about money and the like – and my son would too, so I can stop helping him make money to buy new tools. I also think the world needs a bit more interactivity. Traffic can often get in the way and doesn’t react when you hit it with your vehicle. Signs, fences...
Farming Simulator - Nintendo Switch Edition does exactly what it sets out to do: The franchise makes a solid splash on the system with the benefits of last year's release. The vast amount of tasks and pure variety in how you can farm is staggering. The tasks rely on realism, which makes them a little slower-paced and decidedly not for everyone. Personally, I found managing my farm the most engaging. It sees you buying materials, employing workers, and constantly expanding your empire. You won't get there on the short term, but it makes the journey worth it in the end.
With multiple types of crops to grow and sell and plenty of different equipment to buy and land to field, there’s a true wealth of content in Farming Simulator 2014. If you can look past the fact it was clearly built on a budget (it looks good, but pop-in is a issue, for instance), and are willing to give it a chance despite its theme, then you may well find this a surprisingly addictive and rich experience.
Farming Simulator is definitely not for everybody, but you no doubt already knew that. Those looking for a methodical, low-key experience will be right at home in Farming Simulator’s world, which is just a ringing endorsement as any. Farming Simulator knows full well what its target market is, but it gets the job done.
Farming Simulator - Nintendo Switch Edition gives players a complete farming experience both at home and on the move!
Much like life on the land, Farming Simulator will not be for everyone. The agricultural adventure’s plodding, methodical pace is a far cry from the high-octane antics that the majority of developers tend to plant on the PlayStation 3, and as such it will demand a very determined personality to reap anything from the experience at all. That said, those with a dogged mindset will find the kernels of a bizarrely compelling outdoor excursion here – even if the entire affair is soiled by some pretty prominent flaws.
