Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen Reviews
Professional reviews from gaming critics
Final Fantasy XVI Echoes of the Fallen doesn't add much to Clive's story, but for fans of FFXVI combat this DLC is a must have. The new raid-like dungeon adds new challenges and some of the best mechanical boss fights FFXVI has to offer.
I’ve noticed a pattern with DLC as of late. If the release is divided into two parts, the first one will be pretty light fare. An appetizer, if you will. Echoes of The Fallen, the first part of Final Fantasy XVI’s DLC, is exactly that. You get a few new items, some new music, and a brief yet brutal chunk of battles. If nothing else, my appetite for more content is mostly sated. At least, I should last until the second part is released next Spring.
Final Fantasy XVI Echoes of The Fallen serves as a refresher into the realm of Valisthea, bringing with it increased level cap, new gear, and some new bosses. It doesn't last long, clocking in at around two hours, but it does just enough to keep you curious for what comes next.
Despite not packing the epic drama its base game is loved for, Echoes of the Fallen is as a great time as you'd expect from Final Fantasy 16 DLC.
Echoes of the Fallen is a solid DLC that offers prospective players what is essentially a "Lost Chapter" to the main game of Final Fantasy XVI. Interesting new lore about the Fallen, an additional dungeon, and one of the best boss fights in the game. You get a nice chunk of game! However, $10 as a standalone price or a $25 bundle with a DLC that isn't out is a slightly steep ask.
Final Fantasy XVI: Echoes of the Fallen delivers beautiful scenes and incredible action but falters a bit with an anticlimactic ending. There is plenty to enjoy for fans of the main game, but the lack of a great ending means it fails to live up to the lofty expectations set by the main game.
