Obsidian Entertainment has successfully carved out its own slice of the fantasy RPG genre with Avowed: a beautiful, fun, and exciting adventure with a gripping new world to explore through multiple playthroughs. Outside its occasional technical hiccups and leveling issues, the core offering captures that essential role-playing game hook that makes you want to explore as much as possible and marvel at whatever random curiosities, quests, or treasures you happen across. We can only hope DLC or a sequel is on Obsidian’s minds so we can see more of The Living Lands and the developer can further refine its execution to make the experience even better.
Persona 3 Reload is one of the best remakes I’ve ever seen - a faithful but stunning reimagining of a classic JRPG that will please Persona veterans and newcomers alike.
A fun tactical RPG for newcomers and veterans to the genre, Persona 5 Tactica is a must-play for any Persona 5 fan thanks to its wonderful cast of new and returning characters, alongside an approachable yet deep combat system.
Altogether, Lies of P is a stunningly fun Soulslike that works great for both genre newcomers and veterans. Culminating gameplay aspects from those which have come before and combining them with a unique twist on the source material, Lies of P feels as one-of-a-kind as the puppet who wished he could be a real boy that the game is based on.
An even more gripping and heartfelt story than the last, incredibly broadened combat, immersive exploration, and a much deeper assortment of customisation and RPG elements make this Jedi experience your own whilst simultaneously remaining the intimate tale of Cal Kestis and his crew.
Accessible, fun, and full of ambition, Rise of the Ronin will have you hooked on its combat no matter what type of player you are - with an exciting story of engaging characters being bloodied icing on the cake.
Star Wars Outlaws is a truly fun action-adventure that lives up to the name of its franchise with its interesting story, awesome cast, and unique criminal syndicate reputation system. Its open-world appeal is stretched thin by the vices of its own ambition, filled with a lot of optional padding, but its core offering is more than enough on its own to be worth a dive in.
Once you warm up to its cast, Dustborn's unique twist on a super-power adventure in an alternate-future America makes for an engrossingly great time, even if some of its gameplay leaves more to be desired.
