A Souls-like filled with puppets and lies.
Altogether, Lies of P is a stunningly fun Soulslike that works great for both genre newcomers and veterans. Culminating gameplay aspects from those which have come before and combining them with a unique twist on the source material, Lies of P feels as one-of-a-kind as the puppet who wished he could be a real boy that the game is based on.
I love it when a musical artist remixes a familiar song in new and unexpected ways. You know, like playing Green Day’s American Idiot as a guitar folk ballad. Sometimes these things work, sometimes not so much. When they hit, though, they can reveal hidden aspects or fresh perspectives. I thought of that while playing Lies of P. It’s an unapologetically Soulslike action game. But not just that. It’s also an unapologetic love letter to FromSoftware, and players will recognize ideas from all the Souls games, Elden Ring, Sekiro and, especially, Bloodborne. Still, Lies of P is more than a cheesy c...
Lies of P is a fantastic gothic Soulslike that is worth playing even during this hectic game season. Pick it up if you want a game that will bite back.
With its bleak reimagining of Pinocchio and a stunning Belle Epoque era setting, Lies of P stands apart even when its gameplay relies on imitation.
Even if you're not a die-hard Souls-like fan, Lies of P has something to offer. It boasts content that's distinct from the game and, in my opinion, ranks among the best Souls-like titles to date. It can even hold its own against the mainline FromSoftware titles. So, if you're prepared to navigate the city of Krat with a web of lies and refine your abilities to confront the twisted, plague-infested remnants of the world
Lies of P is a worthy entry into the soulslike genre of gaming, particularly when the game allows its own unique elements to truly shine, such as its unique spread of weaponry and combat mechanics or its impressive story twists that can have you rediscovering what it means to be human. Top those parts off with large, well-designed levels with a ton of stuff to discover and terrific visuals in both beautiful scenery and terrifying monsters, and you have a great game in general that, despite occasional frustrations, is worth checking out, and that's no lie.
Even with strings attached, Lies of P holds its own.
Lies of P has excellent combat and a raft of well-designed boss fights, but bad storytelling permeates a sense that you've seen all of this before.
“Lies of P makes it clear that developer Neowiz has a deep appreciation and understanding for FromSoftware's games that goes beyond a surface-level copy.”
Ultimately, for a first attempt, Lies of P is a solid Soulslike that should keep fans of the genre happy and frustrated for the entire runtime. It’s clear Neowiz and Round8 have an affection for their inspiration even if they don’t quite have the skill to match.
Lies of P has strong enough foundations in its edgy tone and tweaked weapons to provide an enjoyable experience for those in need of a FromSoft fix.
