Professional reviews from gaming critics
Persona 5 Tactica is a fantastic spinoff and tactical JRPG, which is perfect to play on the Steam Deck.
The thing that struck me about the general style of Persona 5 Tactica was how bright and bold the graphics are. It is like being transported straight into a comic book. After we are introduced to each character and the story begins it is clear this is a smart and engaging script.
If you’re looking for more Persona 5 in terms of its gameplay stylings, you won’t find it here, but if you’re not afraid to branch out to a new style of gameplay and let the story stumble for a minute before it finds its legs, then Persona 5 Tactica is worth your time. It won’t run you anywhere near as long as the base game will or even as long as Persona 5 Strikers will, but as a smaller side story, it’s a game that’s begging to be played.
Persona 5 Tactica is yet another brilliant outing for the Phantom Thieves. We haven’t enjoyed it quite as much as the original Persona 5 or Persona 5 Strikers, but its combat, which is relatively fast-paced and exciting for the genre, has won us over. This is a must-have for anyone that wants to spend more time with Joker and co. And while it’s undoubtedly better to be familiar with the exploits of the Phantom Thieves, it remains welcoming to tactical role-playing fans on the whole.
Though Persona 5 Tactica might lack the spectacle of its predecessor, its depth and extraordinary storytelling make it well worth playing.
Persona 5 Tactica is an excellent addition to the popular franchise, bringing a heartfelt story and an addicting tactical-based combat loop. The ending part overstays it’s welcome and becomes fairly repetitive, but that can be overlooked for all the positives the game brings to the table.
Persona 5 Tactica is another very solid and self-assured spin-off for Atlus' stellar RPG franchise. Placing the Phantom Thieves in tactical turn-based battles works a treat here, with addictive and challenging strategy complimented by a slick sense of style, strong writing and a campaign narrative that will keep fans happy. Whether you're here for Persona specifically or you're just wanting a solid slice of tactical action to dig into, this one has got you well and truly covered.
Persona 5 Tactica marks a welcome return for the Phantom Thieves, delivering a fun strategy spin-off with plenty of heart.
A turn-based strategy 'em up with the Persona 5 gang that might be a bit too simplistic for some, and anime for others, but still makes for a nice excuse to hang with pals.
A fun tactical RPG for newcomers and veterans to the genre, Persona 5 Tactica is a must-play for any Persona 5 fan thanks to its wonderful cast of new and returning characters, alongside an approachable yet deep combat system.
“Persona 5 Tactica's strategic elements are its highlights, but don't expect it to take your heart.”
Persona 5 Tactica doesn't know exactly how tactical to be, and wastes the charisma of the Phantom Thieves in the process
