My Persona 5 Royal review was contentious. It garnered plenty of criticism as I unashamedly fondled the praises of it – that initial cringeworthy paragraph didn’t help. Regardless, I stand behind giving it a score of 10. Despite my fanboyism, however, I recognize that as a mainline entry, Persona 5 has been milked for every drop. The udders have shrivelled up, and people are sick and tired, but I’m not.

Persona 5 Tactica is another worthy Persona 5 spin-off that feels justified in its existence. It's always a joy to spend more time with the Phantom Thieves of Hearts but it's Tactica's new characters and puzzle-like combat encounters that I'll remember it for the most. It certainly doesn't reinvent the wheel, but offers a more than competent tactics experience within a framework that's sure to please any Persona fan.

So if the idea of a tactics game starring the Phantom Thieves, clocking in at a neat 30ish hours, sounds appealing, then Persona 5 Tactica is for you. It’s not as deep or compelling as other options, but it’s got the style and characters you like. The ending wraps up nicely too, even if getting there is a bit drawn out at the start. I’m happy I spent some time in the tactical Kingdoms of Persona 5 Tactica myself. But I also think I’m ready for a new crew to get the spotlight.

Persona 5 Tactica might be smaller than a mainline game, but it packs no less of a punch. Its story has something important to say and speaks its mind in an impressively cohesive manner. It doesn’t seek to tackle as many issues as Persona 5 but what it does charge into, it blows out of the water. All this while the loveable character prevents the serious subject matter from ever becoming overbearing. Persona 5 Tactica is great. You should play it.
