My Persona 5 Royal review was contentious. It garnered plenty of criticism as I unashamedly fondled the praises of it – that initial cringeworthy paragraph didn’t help. Regardless, I stand behind giving it a score of 10. Despite my fanboyism, however, I recognize that as a mainline entry, Persona 5 has been milked for every drop. The udders have shrivelled up, and people are sick and tired, but I’m not.

So if the idea of a tactics game starring the Phantom Thieves, clocking in at a neat 30ish hours, sounds appealing, then Persona 5 Tactica is for you. It’s not as deep or compelling as other options, but it’s got the style and characters you like. The ending wraps up nicely too, even if getting there is a bit drawn out at the start. I’m happy I spent some time in the tactical Kingdoms of Persona 5 Tactica myself. But I also think I’m ready for a new crew to get the spotlight.

Despite minor complaints about the story's pacing, the overall experience of Persona 5 Tactica is rewarding. Engaging combat dynamics and a strategic depth that is hidden at the game's slower-than-I-wanted start kept me invested in the tactical twists. Persona 5 Tactica successfully delivers a compelling inter-quel that stands on its own within the beloved franchise. Persona 5 Tactica is a solid, enjoyable tactics game that still feels like a Persona game despite not being a true RPG. It successfully blends the Persona universe with a tactical RPG gameplay style. This one can be enjoyed by Persona 5 fans and tactics...

Possibly a spin-off too far, Persona 5 Tactica conceals a reasonably fun tactical turn-based strategy game behind a wearisome visual novel-style story.
Read Full ReviewPersona 5 Tactica might be smaller than a mainline game, but it packs no less of a punch. Its story has something important to say and speaks its mind in an impressively cohesive manner. It doesn’t seek to tackle as many issues as Persona 5 but what it does charge into, it blows out of the water. All this while the loveable character prevents the serious subject matter from ever becoming overbearing. Persona 5 Tactica is great. You should play it.

Persona 5 Tactica is just as stylish and fun as any of the main series. While it does hit the same beats as other stories in the franchise, it’s still a great time if you give it a try.

Persona 5 Tactica is a fantastic spinoff and tactical JRPG, which is perfect to play on the Steam Deck.

Persona 5 Tactica is an excellent addition to the popular franchise, bringing a heartfelt story and an addicting tactical-based combat loop. The ending part overstays it’s welcome and becomes fairly repetitive, but that can be overlooked for all the positives the game brings to the table.

A new take on the Phantom Thieves' universe that ultimately allows us to see our favorite characters once more.

It walks a precarious tightrope, where it risks disappointing both Persona and strategy fans, but most of the time this fun but shallow tactical role-player threads the needle to enjoyable effect.

Though Persona 5 Tactica might lack the spectacle of its predecessor, its depth and extraordinary storytelling make it well worth playing.

The Phantom Thieves are back for a chibi revolution in Persona 5 Tactica. A solid story and a jazzy soundtrack power up the outstanding battle system of this strategy RPG.

Atlus is not done pulling the Phantom Thieves through yet another adventure. Compared to other P5 offshoots like Strikers and Dancing in Starlight, Persona 5 Tactica hits closer to home. This time around, the familiar cast needs to fight through a grid-based tactical RPG, similar to the SMT: Devil Survivor series, in a new story that takes place between the second and third semesters of high school in the original Persona 5 timeline. The solid combat system, though limited to a three-person party, allows for a lot of finely-tuned strategy. However, the linear plot is tangential at best and focuses...

Rhythm games, dungeon crawlers, a 1v1 fighting game and even a Musou; it seems like at this point the Persona series has done it all. Surprisingly absent — though entirely fitting — from that spin-off repertoire has been a tactics game, but no longer. Persona 5 Tactica is here and celebrates the occasion by having it follow the beloved Phantom Thieves cast. With it comes another delightful affair for the group of teenagers, even if they’ve somewhat run their course.

Persona 5 Tactica sends off Phantom Thieves in style. It's your "one more time with feelings" adventure that packs many memorable moments that do these beloved characters justice. Add to that an endearing art style, satisfying gameplay, and spectacular music, and you have one of the best games of the year in a year that has already produced so many incredible games.

Despite its lukewarm reception in the West with the first few entries in the series, the Persona series has turned into a worldwide phenomenon with the third and fourth entries, further solidifying its popularity with the fifth entry. This game, in particular, seems to have resonated the most with fans, as the story of the Phantom Thieves did not end with the main game, getting expanded with Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced version of the original game, and with a few spin-off titles like Persona 5 Strikers, an extremely competent mix between the mechanics that have powered the series since...

In summary, Persona 5 Tactica offers a great story with engaging factors, vibrant colors, dynamic art styles, new characters, and music. It masters a compelling story while also presenting older and nostalgic characteristics of Persona 5. With a fresh new coat of paint, Persona 5 Tactica is worth it to suit up as a Phantom Thief and liberate the worlds of the Metaverse.

I can see fans of the series enjoying it, but compared to its brothers, it isn’t as strong an entry, and franchise fatigue plays a part in my feelings towards the game. Perhaps Atlus should consider looking to the next era of Persona before they end up tarnishing the great legacy created with this one.

Persona 5 Tactica seamlessly blends the SRPG genre with Persona 5. With combat mechanics that elevate the game and a story that ramps up to be enrapturing and heart-wrenching, Persona 5 Tactica is easily my favorite Persona spin-off, and I hope Atlus makes more SRPGs with this style of gameplay.

If you’re looking for more Persona 5 in terms of its gameplay stylings, you won’t find it here, but if you’re not afraid to branch out to a new style of gameplay and let the story stumble for a minute before it finds its legs, then Persona 5 Tactica is worth your time. It won’t run you anywhere near as long as the base game will or even as long as Persona 5 Strikers will, but as a smaller side story, it’s a game that’s begging to be played.

Persona 5 has become its own sort of mini-franchise within the Persona series. With many spin-off titles released over the years, such as Persona 5 Strikers, Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, and Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth, Atlus seems to love using Persona 5’s popularity to explore new stories and gameplay ideas. However, I applaud Atlus for making all of these spin-offs in completely different genres from each other. The latest, Persona 5 Tactica, delivers an entertaining story, a colorful cast of characters, and fun combat mechanics within the context of a strategy RPG. Longtime Phantom Thieves can look forward...

Persona 5 Tactica makes the most of combining Persona and tactics (as the name implies) together, forming a charming amalgamation out of the two for a surprisingly dense mechanical experience and powerful story that nevertheless loses something by omitting anything resembling side activities.

Persona 5 Tactica marks a welcome return for the Phantom Thieves, delivering a fun strategy spin-off with plenty of heart.

Persona 5 Tactica is yet another brilliant outing for the Phantom Thieves. We haven’t enjoyed it quite as much as the original Persona 5 or Persona 5 Strikers, but its combat, which is relatively fast-paced and exciting for the genre, has won us over. This is a must-have for anyone that wants to spend more time with Joker and co. And while it’s undoubtedly better to be familiar with the exploits of the Phantom Thieves, it remains welcoming to tactical role-playing fans on the whole.

Persona 5 Tactica doesn't know exactly how tactical to be, and wastes the charisma of the Phantom Thieves in the process

Persona 5 Tactica is another very solid and self-assured spin-off for Atlus' stellar RPG franchise. Placing the Phantom Thieves in tactical turn-based battles works a treat here, with addictive and challenging strategy complimented by a slick sense of style, strong writing and a campaign narrative that will keep fans happy. Whether you're here for Persona specifically or you're just wanting a solid slice of tactical action to dig into, this one has got you well and truly covered.

The thing that struck me about the general style of Persona 5 Tactica was how bright and bold the graphics are. It is like being transported straight into a comic book. After we are introduced to each character and the story begins it is clear this is a smart and engaging script.

While die-hard Phantom Thieves will enjoy stepping into the Metaverse once again - as slick, stylish, and cool as it ever was - Persona 5 Tactica lacks variety, momentum, and challenge. Its key issue lies in a fatal lack of mechanical balance, resulting in an endearing but unsatisfying strategy experience.

While the customization system is a little different from Persona 5, it's familiar the same way that the combat nuances and aesthetics are in Persona 5 Tactica. Players gain access to a skill tree for each character that allows them to focus on what specific strengths they want them to have, functioning almost like a job selection in a traditional RPG, especially early on when GP is hard to come by. It also means the Phantom Thieves can be deployed in pretty much any combination as long as skill trees have been developed in ways that are complementary to each...

Persona 5 Tactica is a step in a different direction than previous games, and even with the fatigue from multiple Persona games settling in over the last few years, it still manages to tell an intriguing story and it does nail the Alice in Wonderland vibe it sometimes feels like it's going for. A player's enjoyment may ultimately come down to how he or she feels about the character's new look and the game's more confined spaces in both combat, character skills, and personas alike. There is an enjoyable and interesting tale to be told in Persona 5 Tactica for...

Just when Tactica’s combat feels like it steps into its own, the game ends. Atlus definitely played it safe by easing players into the basics and gradually giving them more freedom to use all of Tactica’s tools, but the moment where everything clicks and all the systems work together happens a little too late. There's a lot of potential here, though, and I hope this isn't the last time Atlus brings tactics to the shadow world.

Persona 5 Tactica is a good game, but it is a game that's standing on the shoulders of giants – when the giant is the size of Satanael, you have a lot to live up to. Indeed, it’s very difficult to score this and not compare it to the other games in the series as a result. Tactica is good, but it’s not great, and while it is always nice to sink into that warm-bath feeling of hanging out with your fictional friends, it won’t be remembered as either a series high or the best spin-off the franchise has to...
